Do you know why the USA has built so many prisons in the last 20 years? Because they know the day of reckoning is coming. Plus the government has a lots of body bags ready too.

capitalism creates crime because it can't guarantee, life, liberty and protection -- no jobs and fair income even if you are willing to work, instead during a "bad economy" people are left homeless and hungry and resort to desperate measures to feed their family.

prisons are for profits as well, so there you go, whose system is this?? ours??

Yeah, we have that silly little freedom thing. Capitalism doesn't create crime, it creates incentives. You should know too that crime has been steadily falling for years now. Smarten up.

Even some judges are paid under the table to increase some of the prisons' guest lists.

The one in PA has been but how many more crooked judges like this man are still sending people to jail to pad his already budging pockets???

Ciavarella pleaded guilty earlier this month to federal criminal charges of fraud and other tax charges, according to the U.S. attorney's office. Former Luzerne County Senior Judge Michael Conahan also pleaded guilty to the same charges. The two secretly received more than $2.6 million, prosecutors said.

The judges have been disbarred and have resigned from their elected positions. They agreed to serve 87 months in prison under their plea deals. Ciavarella and Conahan did not return calls, and their attorneys told CNN that they have no comment.

The war on drugs and people being jailed on simple possession charges and low level sale, especially for drugs like marijuana... Taxpayer funds completely misspent.

Yet another reason for credibility issues. Try population increase, crime rates, immigration, and individualized cells to decrease in-jail violence, among other things.

This kind of nonsense is why this movement doesn't, and never will, represent the "99%".

The prison system is run by corporations rolling in the dough. They will use you as a slave labor once your behind bars. They have taken jobs from free citizens increasing their own profits. This is not nonsense. It's a fact.

There are many federal prisons and state prisons paid for by tax dollars as well. I have no worries about ending up behind bars, so the use of prisoners as slave labor doesn't really bother me.

So your tell me that you think the prisons that are paid for with tax dollars are not another corrupted device affecting the 99%

[-] 0 points by jay1975 (428) 13 years ago

As the US has roughly 2.5 million people behind bars in prisons, I think it affects the .0075% a bit more than the other 98.0025% of the supposed 99%.

2.5 million people behind bars you stated that like it's no big deal. My friend thats a lot of people. USA Freedom and Justice is for all.

Hey, I'm not arguing with the numbers and a large part of the problem is the criminalization of personal choices, i.e. drug users. Arresting the users is like arresting illegal aliens. It addresses the symptoms and not the cause.

Looks like the government is ready to lock up a lot of their own citizens if it becomes nessary for them to stay in power.
