Dear OccupyWallStreeters and supporters,
I, like many of you are fed up with the status quo. I have also done my fair of protesting and civil disobedience in my time. But these protests have really only functioned to allow like minded individuals a chance to blow off steam. They have rarely resulted in significant change. The powers that be simply speak a different language and respond to different cues than the rest of us.
So I say, if Wall Street and the major financial institutions are really the target, hit them where it hurts them the most: their bottom line. Pull your money out of the large bank and join your local credit union. You'll have direct say in the operations of the CU, get better rates for your money and since the CU is local, it is reinvesting back into your local community instead of on crazy investment products that have no actual value. (Go to culookup.com to find the ones near you.) That is what I just did.
Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and like will take notice when accounts start closing across the nation.
Don't stop protesting. Keep your voices going so you can not be drowned out or forgotten, but step up the pressure and vote with your money. We are the 99%. Let us truly leverage our power.
This is actually not a bad idea for people with wealth or perhaps in aggregate with enough people. The banks are keeping these deposits for free. Interest rates are almost zero. Might as well go to a place with lower transaction costs and better contractual terms.
