First I want to extend my heartfelt sympathies to all those brave people on the streets of New York; solidarity from across the ocean in the Netherlands!
I had a discussion a few days ago on the question of demands and about whether Occupy Wall Street should have put forth reformist demands or revolutionary ones, i.e., demands appealing to the kindness of the corrupt Republicans and Democrats, or demands appeal to the millions of people not only in the United States but across the world, who are suffering under the terrible weight of this undemocratic, plutocratic, bought-off, inefficient, corrupt political system.
I argued in favor of the latter. You can read my arguments here: http://materialistinvestigations.wordpress.com/2011/10/09/discussion-on-occupy-wall-street-and-reformism/
I also want to extend an invitation to you all to a discussion forum some activists have set up a while back. It's a democratic forum, guaranteeing the basic rights of members and allowing them the opportunity to run the forum themselves. In other words, it's a forum by its members, for its members, democratically run. It would be great if some of you would join us in the discussions there. We have some members in the States who are involved in the Occupy movements, too.
Here is the link to that: http://www.revforum.com/forum.php
Most importantly though I want to wish you all the best of luck. On the 15th there is a Occupy Amsterdam event planned, which I'll be attending. This wave of democratic action will hopefully spread across the world, and in doing so will serve as a clarion call to all the peoples of the world to join and steadfastly declare with the accumulated rage of generations: Enough is enough! Get that disgusting boot off our necks, and let us live!
Oh and of course you can read the whole discussion on the forum, here: http://www.revforum.com/showthread.php?571-Wall-Street-protests
And join in on the discussion yourself as well, if you so desire.
