Forum Post: Detroit: Turning Off the Power

Posted 11 years ago on Sept. 15, 2013, 12:15 p.m. EST by shoozTroll (17632)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Still think "emergency managers" are no big deal??

Still think these people aren't the epitome of evil??

Think again.

I can't think of another time or place in history, when someone did something this mean and dangerous.

How about shutting of the electricity in a heat wave.........to "send a message"?

"On September 12th, 2013, Bill Nowling casually stated that the city’s power outages were intentional. Officials and citizens working in the city were given no warning before the electricity was cut off. Law enforcement officials working in the Hall of Justice had no time to prepare. Senior citizens and disabled citizens using elevators in the city’s downtown district had no way to know what was coming. The entire criminal justice system was shut down without notice. Wayne State University Campus was just one of many sites evacuated under emergency conditions. Traffic lights across the city stopped working. 1,400 public and private locations were left without power. And the entire thing was intentional, to “send a message” to the people of Detroit. Bill Nowling works in the office of Kevin Orr, Detroit’s Emergency Manager."

Sounds like we're not much better than a third world nation.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Yep - we can still drink most(?) of our water.

[-] 7 points by beautifulworld (23822) 11 years ago

Right, most, but not all:

"Deadly Amoeba Found For First Time In Municipal Water Supply"

http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2013/09/15/222197599/deadly-amoeba-found-for-first-time-in-municipal-water-supply

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Or how about the mysterious encephalitis on college campus's. That documentary " Tapped " is also a real eye opener.

[-] 1 points by DebtSUSPENSIONRights (181) 11 years ago

I'm intrigued by this. I have used a condensation unit for our water for the past several decades. The water would boil then drip back down, leaving many chemicals in its wake as evidenced by the hardened debris left behind.

The water had a nice, subliminally sweet taste to it. I could also easily tell the difference between the condensationed water and regular tap water. Over the past year, the formerly sweet, boiled water tastes like crap. I seem to recall reading that reconditioned water was being reinstated into the drinking water.

I assume in Los Angeles it has now been going on for at least a year.

[-] 5 points by beautifulworld (23822) 11 years ago

That is very scary. This is why water should never be privatized. It should always be owned by the people and the people should have full knowledge of the make up of their water.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Hhmmmmm - one might think a handy little item to push for water privatizing?

Rather than updating the water grid. Hey?

[-] -3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Even if we were true, that's still no excuse for the kind of tyranny being imposed on Michigan and Detroit in particular.

[-] 7 points by beautifulworld (23822) 11 years ago

It should be against the law, and, if it is not against the law, the law should be re-written.

[+] -4 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

They rewrote the laws to allow it in the first place.

ALEC played a heavy hand, before anyone knew who they were.

Most of the country was pre-conditioned to hate Detroit as well and thus Michigan, by proxy.

Since most of the country, doesn't give a shit.

Who's going to push to have those "laws" re-written?

The Koch's helped pay to make this way.

[-] 8 points by beautifulworld (23822) 11 years ago

This is an example of why we need a new system, a total overhaul, shooz. Playing within this system is never going to work.

[-] 2 points by Kavatz (464) from Edmonton, AB 11 years ago

I really like the total overhaul idea myself, but here's a good weapon that's got the unnecessary corporations shitting:

Campaign for Local Power and more NewEraColorado on YouTube

[-] 6 points by beautifulworld (23822) 11 years ago

Very, very nice. I love to see young people getting active. This is all about their future.

[-] -3 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

That's like asking for a whole new Planet. It's not going to happen that way.

Unraveling what's been done, will be difficult, but not impossible.

Assuming of course that you don't live anywhere near Michigan, ask your neighbor if they knew that power in Detroit was intentionally shut off during a heat wave.

Beginning the "overhaul" at the State level will bring us closer to our goals.

PS: Happy BDay!!!!

[-] 5 points by beautifulworld (23822) 11 years ago

Happy Birthday, shooz!! Solidarity with you always.

I still think we need a total overhaul, but we can start smaller, I suppose, lol.

If I were to claim that all of this is basically ALEC written, cookie cutter legislation, I would be further vilified on the forum.

But it is.

They've been at it for almost three years now.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

[-] -2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

This is the part I was referring to.

" It was not only brute force. In meeting after meeting after meeting, there were clear infiltrators who were disrupting the discussions and making sure that no sustainable organizing practices could take hold. That was an incredibly significant problem."

Just like they've done here.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Absolutely - if anyone thinks that there are no infiltrators or attempts at infiltrating on this forum - They Would be sadly mistaken.

Still I wish in the interview that he could have mentioned the MSM as part of the tearing down process.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I'll be waiting for "duopolists" to show where left wingers did anything similar at all.

And lets not talk about the failed reservoirs in Colorado.

Reservoirs, that the GOPers refused funding to for repairs and improvements.

But they were "right" there when it came to stopping background checks for gun nutters.

More dead people, compliments of the GOP.

[-] 0 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Shutting down power to sell it off? That is some of the most irresponsible shit that I have seen.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Hmmmmm reminds one of enron and the western states intentional rolling brown-outs to raise rates.

[-] -1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

That's exactly what they did and since there were no repercussions for what they did, this imbecile did it again. He is a criminal and he should be nailed so hard that he thinks twice before fucking with the people. His name should be synonymous with shit.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Shit would be hurt by that comparison. But if ever there were a reason for a public flogging - this guy sure is begging for it.

Hell it might even be to much for the MSM to ignore - it bleeds it leads - boy talk about being torn - news black-out or ratings - non-coverage of significant events or ratings.

[-] -1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

They don't have the guts to do it.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

They don't have the guts to do it.

Flog the asshole ( the public ) or cover the event ( MSM ) ?

I'm thinking that a large number of the public would be enthused - quite enthused.

[-] -1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

Cover the event.

I would wager that there are a lot of people willing to flog his ass.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

AHHH - Hmmmm - guts to cover it? - or cowardace to cover it ( self preservation ) ? - as covering it would boost the ratings - but might well start a flood of similar actions across the country - eventually including the non-source.....em.....non-sense......damn.....the news spews.....well I think you get what I mean.

[+] -4 points by Narley (272) 11 years ago

No repercussions? How do you figure that. The company went bankrupt and most of its executives went to jail. The forces of evil behind the ENRON debacle were three men, Chairman Ken Lay, CEO Jeffery Skilling and CFO Andrew Fastow. Skilling and Fastow are broke and in prison. Ken Lay died of a heart attack shortly before he was to report to prison. I’m not sure nut I think a few other ENRON insiders were charged with crimes.

I agree that Bill Nowling should be fired and charged with public endangerment.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago

and here I thought it was a need to pay shareholders for doing nothing but own stock

[-] -2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

So, Tom Delay, Phil and Wendy Gramm went to prison?

I missed that part.......

[-] 0 points by Narley (272) 11 years ago

OK, you got me this time. But Tom Delay might still go to prison for messing with campaign money. It's hard to believe, but I hate Tom Delay more than Rick Perry. I think there's some truth that Texan are a little arrogant. Delay and Perry are shining examples.

[-] -2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I doubt he sees it and if he does it will be chump time. It definitely doesn't do enough to scare someone like Issa or even Snyder. There are so many people tied into Team DeLay that need to go down in order to send a strong message.

I'm not so sure that Texas has the corner market on arrogance. Illinois could probably give Texas a run for the money.

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

The company went bankrupt

Sheesh - and the employees got screwed on their holdings of the company stock as well as on the company retirement program - AND - OH - the company reorganizes and re-emerges as something else.

[-] -2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

He skipped over the guy who got away with over $300,000,000 and lives in the Houston area too.

Just like he skipped over all those dead people in West Texas, who died from small government libe(R)tarianism's drive for no regulation.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I've learned to expect much bullshit.

"Emergency managers" are sellouts to a refusal of Democracy in the first place.

The tyrannical, lazy way out.

"This would be so much easier, if it was a dictatorship"

---Rummy---

And so it came to be, in the state of Michigan.

[-] -2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 11 years ago

I agree.

I also think that he just made himself and Orr look stupid AND made a few enemies in the process. I hope the piece of shit goes down in flames.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Oh.....I answered my own question.

They really are of a "right" mind.

[+] -4 points by Narley (272) 11 years ago

Calm down shooz. I agree with you this was a very bad idea. Bill Nowling should be arrested for endangering the public. I thought it odd that he works for Detroit’s emergency manager. Apparently he doesn’t have a clue about emergency management. I don’t give a flip what his political affiliation is, he put the public in danger and should be removed for his job.

However, to extend this to Colorado reservoirs and gun background checks is stupid. Your hate have consumed you. You see a evil conservative behind every bush. You blame everything that happens of conservatives. Joe McCarthy would be proud of you. I say stop the hate and look at the real world.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

look at the real world.

You should take your advice. Something to benefit the people is forwarded - and - GOP/Corp(se)oRATist/libertarian ROAD-BLOCK.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

All I see, is that you didn't prove a thing.

It's you who needs to calm down.

It's hate that consumed you, to the point where you can no longer discern the truth.

The GOP did cut funding to those now failing reservoirs. It's what "small government" does.

It kills the innocent.

Just like NOT doing background checks for gun nutters.

You want to show me where conse(R)vatives have advanced anything at all??

BTW, Joe was a conse(R)vative.

On the other hand

Rick is very proud of you.

Because You don't look a thing in the real world beyond what Rick tells you about Texas.

Which you also refuse to see the reality of.

And that's about as stupid as stupid can be.

Now go ahead and express some more of your HATE for Detroit.

It's all you can do to stick up for your lies about Texas.

[-] -3 points by Narley (272) 11 years ago

Jeez shooz, I was agreeing with you that Bill Nowling should be fired. You can't even accept someone agreeing with you without going off half cocked. I'm pretty sure you have an anger problem. Get some help. please.

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Agreed with me????

"Calm down shooz."

"to extend this to Colorado reservoirs and gun background checks is stupid"

"Your hate have consumed you."

"You see a evil conservative behind every bush"

"Joe McCarthy would be proud of you"

These are not words of agreement. Quite the opposite.

Were you taught otherwise?

This "event" is not simply an indictment of the man.

It's an indictment of the Snyder/GOP/conser(R)vative/libe(R)tarian tyranny, instituted in Michigan and other States.

Something which you have completely ignored.

Now, let's hear all your HATE for Detroit again, and then tell me how I'm the hater.

You're full of shit.

That would make You the bully, not me.

I provided proof in all instances.

You provided lies and personal attacks.

Once again making YOU the bully.
