In too many communities across Mexico, violence has become a frightening reality of daily life.

Over the past five years, more than 40,000 people have been killed in Mexico’s drug war. And many of the guns that fuel this violence are smuggled over the U.S. border.

A recent congressional report noted that 70% of the weapons seized in Mexico in 2009 and 2010 and submitted for tracing came from the United States.

The gun laws in this country are really screwed up. They target law abiding gun owners and do nothing to stop the criminals. I don't know what the right answer is or how exactly to fix them, Bans how ever are not the way.

Stop all sales of guns to Mexico. Stiffen the penalty for selling and transporting guns to Mexico. Increase the law enforcement on the US side of the border.

stricter gun control doesn't equal a total gun ban. The petition is asking Obama for the following: --- Enforce the existing ban on the importation of military-style assault weapons (because many of them are later illegally smuggled into Mexico);

--- Require gun dealers to report to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) the sale of multiple assault rifles to the same person over a period of five days (GOOD NEWS: this summer, the Obama Administration announced new reporting rules on multiple semiautomatic rifles in border states. A great first step – let’s keep the momentum going!);

--- Strengthen legal enforcement in regions of the U.S. that supply the bulk of the contraband weapons smuggled into Mexico.

Oh yeah, let's ban guns. There are NO guns in the hands of criminals in Chicago where guns are banned right!?

The Mexicans would buy the guns they wanted somewhere else(like Russia). It is not about American guns. The issue is Mexicans who want guns. The problem is with the end user, not the market where they buy the product. Ask why are the Mexican people are buying the guns in the first place. And why are they using them to kill eachother.

Fine. Russia, China, etc. are thousands of miles away. America is closer and the biggest supplier for guns to Mexico.

LMAO. Our own government was sending guns over there to provide fuel for this fire, in yet another attack on my right to keep and bear arms, which is not negotiable.

A petition isn't going to stop illegal gun smuggling. It's already illegal! LMAO.

Friggen Shill.
