Well I first though this was about GMO's when I clicked, but this is even more insane!

Was just thinking about Upton Sinclair's book 'The Jungle'. Some things never change.

Thank you gnomunny for info.

Thank you, Nev1, for the article. I just read about this a month or two ago on the Natural News website and it appears to be far more widespread than originally thought. Just when you thought you'd heard it all, another scandal hits the airwaves. I shudder to think of what might be next.

I was going to say this is nothing to do with the 1% or our struggles. But it occurred that this is a symptom of money. As long as we use money, this will happen. Put up another point for the Venus Project.

Now if they would just label the produce - Hey?

Agree. Wondering what all is going on, that we do not know of.

I heard something on the radio yesterday - can't remember which Mexican (?) fast food franchise that it was about - but the quick mention said that they don't list meat in their list of ingredients - just list undisclosed type of protein - protein appears on the list but not what kind.

Remember us talking a while ago about the rumor that Chinese restaurants use engine oil in cooking because of its higher flash point? From the NY Times article:

"Food experts say that engine oil is among the substances found in olive oil."

Hmmm, I guess it's not much of a stretch after all, eh?

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Hmmm, I guess it's not much of a stretch after all, eh?

Disgusting as it is to consider - NO not too much of a stretch to consider - NOT AT ALL!!! Especially when one considers such things as GMO crops producing their own pesticides/poisons - which are then as a matter of course included into the food chain.

And now apparently the Bt toxin can alter the DNA of your gut bacteria, meaning even if you stop eating GM foods today, your system may be permanently altered. Wait, what thread are we on? heheheh

Information like this bears repeating and spreading every chance we get.

[-] 2 points by Nevada1 (5843) 11 years ago

No protection for the consumer paying for all this, as Monsanto people hold high positions with FDA and USDA.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

True, for the time being. We've been the lab rats in a twenty-year experiment and I believe the test results are now coming in. And it ain't looking good for the rats.

TRUTH

And now apparently the Bt toxin can alter the DNA of your gut bacteria, meaning even if you stop eating GM foods today, your system may be permanently altered

That is not all that is said to be altered by eating franken food.

And we've been hearing recently about GE grasses and trees being considered, but now I think I've heard it all. GE CHILDREN!! Oh, Hell no!

From GMWatch:

"GM Babies - do you want a say? (from GMWatch) 1.Genetically engineered babies unless you act now!

Dear friends,

You probably hoped it wouldn't come to this, but it has. British scientists are calling for the legislation for a technique for creating babies with altered genes. There is no good medical argument for doing this. There are less than two weeks to persuade the government that the consequences of doing so would be disastrous. If you care about genetic engineering of crops and animals you should care about the threat of GE children.

Although microbes, plants and animals have been genetically engineered, surprisingly for the last 20 years governments around the world have strongly resisted scientists' attenpts to do the same to humans. Now scientists have found a way to cross this line without appearing to do so. Do not be fooled! Although these techniques are not genetic modification, they will result in babies whose genes have been intentionally altered. These genes will be passed down the female line to all their descendents, so this is genetic engineering. Once this crucial ethical line has been crossed it will be impossible to go back, and we will rapidly descend into the future of GM 'designer babies' eugenics that everyone wants to avoid. The only way to avoid that is to insist on the ban on any form of genetic engineering of humans.

Do not succumb to the emotional blackmail about preventing suffering! The birth of children with genetic diseases can already be prevented in a number of ways. All that the new techniques of 'mitochondrial replacement' add is that the mother will be genetically related to her child. This is a social, not a medical benefit, and although anyone can understand parents' wishes to be related to their child, the choice is not about preventing suffering or doing nothing. That social benefit for a very small number of women in no way justifies the consequences of crossing the crucial ethical and political line in the sand. The attached briefing gives more details of the technicalities and arguments.

This is a crucial moment, what may be one of the last chances to prevent a future of 'designer babies'. The British government needs to be told firmly that we do not agree with the legislation of these techniques. There is an online consultation at http://mitochondria.hfea.gov.uk/mitochondria/ which must be completed by December 7th. PLEASE TAKE A FEW MINUTES FOR THE SAKE OF THE HUMAN FUTURE, FILL IN THE CONSULTATION NOW! Please forward this message to appropriate lists and contacts, and let HGA know what you are doing.

WTF??!!

OMG - as if things were not bad enough - they wanna start playing around with making franken babies? Guess they are just so anxious that they can't wait to see what mutations GMO foods will introduce.

[-] 2 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

GM babies engineered to resist the adverse effects of GM foods, heheheh.

Oh, God, I shouldn't be joking about it.

GM babies engineered to resist the adverse effects of GM foods

Future of health care and charities?

Oh, God, I shouldn't be joking about it.

True - it is not the least bit funny - nor stretch of the imagination.

[-] 2 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

I'll have to check out that link from David King and see what became of it last year. I saw the first page when I posted it, but didn't dig deep enough to see how it turned out.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

They just gotta try and play god - being told they can't clone was not enough ( you knew it would not be ) they have to be told to desist on trying to change the human gene.

[-] 2 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

I just had a quick look on that link and apparently there's been no ruling from the British government that I can see. The public's view has been submitted. I guess it's now a waiting game.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

I can't see the public sitting back on the idea ( if they are made aware of it that is ) - look at the outrage cloning got.

[-] 2 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

Oh yeah, I'd be willing to bet the public voiced a strong opposition to this. Now let's hope the government listens to the people in this case. If it were the US I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope. Let's hope Cameron's not as big a sell-out as our guy.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Sanity has got to start kicking in sooner or later one would think. We are in the area of later - so lets cross our fingers and keep communicating.

[-] 2 points by Nevada1 (5843) 11 years ago

No end to the threat from all this.

[-] 2 points by Nevada1 (5843) 11 years ago

One of the links here mentioned that Monsanto people do not eat their own GMO products.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Wouldn't that be a GR8 endorsement. Would love to get the word from a few whistle blowers - Hey?

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

That's hard to say either way because almost all the links I saw reference the same article which deals with a single cafeteria in England back in the late '90's. But I did find this compelling piece:
