Forum Post: Core Statement

Posted 13 years ago on Oct. 4, 2011, 8:21 p.m. EST by Von (0)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

What we need- immediately- is a simple, easily remembered one line statement of our core goal... (That's "goal... not "demand," the idiotic phrase that's been foisted on us by the media.) one that can easily and succinctly include ALL the various motivations which draw us to OWW, be it poverty, economics, politics, the environment, the peace movement... etc...

I suggest something along the lines of:

"OUR GOAL IS THE REMOVAL OF CORPORATE INFLUENCE FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES." ...pretty much includes it all, no?

As Martin Luther King Jr. said in his 1963 Dream speech

Make the Promise Real

All men are created equal. With the inalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

This statement gives us all the right to not only exist but choose how we live, where we live. They tell us that we all have equal right to World and it's resources. It clearly says that your value is not decided by your nationality, or your Family or economic status, it is not decided by whether you are male or female, tall or short. No we are all created equal....Period...The founders did not these rights were for Americans only...They said All Men...

I think this is the most rational and getting a large amount of feedback. Comment and add your statement, because it's really good!

I think a key part of figuring out a core statement is figuring out a core goal. To do that we have to understand the nature of what we're fighting and figure out the one thing that's most essential to attack.

What are we against? Is corporate money the cause of it? What about corporate power in general (not just in government)?

I think I might be on board with something along these lines, but sill don't fully understand the situation.

one liner slogans are great for mob psychology, but can not get across a well thought out plan

why not get rid of the corrupt politicians that are being bought instead? If you take only corporations out then unions and nonprofits will influence them. At least corporations do something somebody wants.

I agree with this goal. We can get to specific demands later.

Dismantling the pillars of corporatism holding up the edifice of greed and replacing them with a foundation predicated on social justice

I agree with this. If the movement wants a chance of surviving it should be about the corporate influence.

Not drugs. Not education. Not healthcare. Not unions. Not war. Not even taxes.

"Would you say that the corporate influence, and seriously aren't we talking about the leaders of corporations really, are influecning not just the Government (big g), but all aspects of our lives from little government to media to how and who gets educated... maybe that is too broad a target.. but a goal or mission needs to be an ideal that the broad 99% can all feel a connection. A) Corporations are not individuals B) We're tired of our voice being a pay as you go service."

I totally agree we need a core statement. This is a good start. Would this mean no more donations allowed to candidates?

[-] 1 points by RG32 (81) 13 years ago

I would like to do that and a whole lot of other things, but I think this is the goal that kicked the whole thing off. So, it's good.

It also makes it harder for the media to slander the whole fucking movement as a bunch of communists, hippies, freaks, bums, slackers and everything else. The media is so far out of control it is truly difficult to comprehend.

First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you (our current stage). Then they fight you. Then, you win.

Ofcourse they are denigrating us. Their viewership is declining every day because the people know they are lying and distorting the truth.

if you are not a communist, hippie, freak, bum or slacker, what do you want to do with your life when this is over?
