Originally the term "Liberal" referred to liberty. A Classical Liberalist is someone who defends individual thought, limited government, the constitution and personal financial control. This includes John Locke and Adam Smith among many others.
The term liberal was certainly hijacked by the Democratic Party (no attack there, just a point) and somehow was tweeked to define something completely different.
People of the Libertarian Party actually should be defined as "Liberals," as they are true Constitutionalists. It's quite interesting that over time all of our political terms have become so skewed and perverted that they confuse everyone! I wish that the terms politicians choose to use were understood by all.
I think a main problem we have in today's society is that our youth is undereducated in politics and the true meanings of what politicians are trying to achieve are not understood.
..and vice-versa.. we are all the 99% Lets stick together. I got your back. Lets broaden our perspective from each-others differences so we better understand one another, and focus our energy on what we agree on. Wallstreet Fraud anyone?
