I keep seeing CNN,MSNBC articles about some poor grad student who is 100K in debt attending an Ivy league school to get a degree in Art and now working some job flipping burgers.

So for you young whippersnappers, a few tips to avoid being an indentured servant to the man.

1 if your gonna go to college, go to your local state school

2 Avoid fluff degrees. For example. Stuff like Philosophy, Womans studies, psychology, sociology ,Art,Communications,Latin,Religion. etc.. Just a few examples.

The only thing those degrees will get you is a fast track to the coffee shop working minimum wage and a non dischargable loan that will grow faster with time.

The days of just taking the easiest major and expecting that all you need is any degree to land a good job is over. Its unfortunate but thats how things have evolved.

Now see... I love this post.

All the folks that loved my flash mob manipulate the cops post are going to hate this and call me a TROLL.

Colleges are big business. They created these "fluff" degrees so they would have something to sell to students who weren't ready or capable of a serious degree. I don't say that to be mean, it's just how I see it. A lot of college students would have been much better off going into a trade, but their guidance counselors sold them into something that's basically useless in the real world. The colleges even help the students get the non dischargeable loans. What other business could engage in such practices and have the far left protect them?

If you are a really gorgeous woman or a really great athlete with pro potential, you can major in communications and then get a big network job (FOX News seems to go for hot blondes). Or, if your name is Chelsea Clinton, you can get a big network job regardless of your degree (history, I believe). I feel bad for any graduating journalism students who are going to have to start at WCRAP in Podunk. But the 1% look after their own.

I disagree with labeling Psychology and Sociology as fluff degrees. Psychology especially is an important field, whether it be research or application. Art and Communications are debatable since an artist's greatest asset is their portfolio.
