Forum Post: Coca Cola Is Attempting To Bust Union in CT.

Posted 12 years ago on June 28, 2012, 11 a.m. EST by BoycottCoke (275)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

We have been informed about a Coca Cola Worker's strike in Hartford CT. These workers have been working without a contract for over 11 months before negotiations broke down, and now over 350 workers are behind a picket line.

Make no mistake this is non other than another attempt at Union Busting by Coca Cola.

Now in the busiest of all seasons, Coca Cola is not willing to sit and talk to them. Rumor is that they will not sit and talk to them until after labor day. Are you kidding me?

Coca Cola is willing to pay an exuberant amount of money in transportation of its goods, just to avoid coming to an understanding with the Union, again this is nothing other than Union busting.

But here is where we come into play, we need to show in numbers, your support to end this evil practice.

Once again Coca Cola demonstrate they are on the wrong side of the issue, 350 families' lively hood is at stake here, therefore we need you to show in numbers your disapproval.

Coca Cola is not only involved in a racial discrimination lawsuit in New York, but now Coca Cola is adding another chapter in its disgraceful history, by taking a Union Busting stance.

As one can clearly see, dropping out of ALEC was just a smoke screen to fool the public, Coca Cola still is on the wrong side of life

Let us join together and condemn this evil practice, please join us by liking our page on Facebook, which is http://facebook.com/Thecoke16, and by doing so, you are giving us power to put pressure on Coke to sit down and do the right thing by the workers. We can not do this without your support!

If you do not have a Facebook account, setting up one is easy, many of you have already done it and giving us your support, again, we need numbers. Set up your account if you do not have one, creating it is fairly quick and easy, get a free email account from yahoo or other service and use it just for Facebook. I, myself, used to boycott Facebook, until I realized it can be used successfully to do good. Occupy Atlanta and other Occupy movements already use it with great success.

Together we can accomplish great things! Thank you for your support.

Hello BoycottCoke, We will keep the pressure on. Best Regards

[-] 2 points by BoycottCoke (275) 12 years ago

Thanks.

It's hard breaking on how these companies can play games with decent hard working people's lives with impunity.

They will end up breaking this Union if we do nothing, 3 months without work and those guys will be ready to throw the union out just to get back to work, it is a sad fact, and that is exactly what Coke wants.

This particular local took a stand and won a few years ago, when Coke wanted to do away with a few positions, therefore putting some of its members out of a job, but they stood and prevailed, so now it is payback time, unless we step in.

Thank you all for your support. BC

I've been boycotting Coke for years (ever since I quit drinking Jack), too much sugar (and diet tastes disgusting) :)

But every once in a while I hit the Jack, for old times sake (never a good experience, but tastes great), Jack & Pepsi, hmmmm, I won't knock it till I try it (and I hate union busters).

Soda is a terrible thing to drink, so maybe these people should transport something that is more healthy or find different jobs instead of making children addicted to caffeine & sugar.

[-] 1 points by writerconsidered123 (344) 12 years ago

don't blame the workers for that and this about saving unions and jobs are not that easy find

actaully what really pisses me off is your statement "these people" who the fuck are you? these people are " our people" the 99 trying fight of corperate greed

[-] 1 points by EagleEye (31) 12 years ago

Is that what the Nazis thought? I chose a profession that does not make people sick because I care about humanity. Soda distributors are part of the healthcare problem. Child diabetes is increasing at a staggering rate making children sick, so these idiots can have a livelihood. That is who the FUCK I AM!

I would rather educate the people do they do not buy those products, that way companies like Coke will have to modify their products into something that will not harm children.

If they leave that job, there will be another 350 people waiting to step right in.

[-] 1 points by EagleEye (31) 12 years ago

Why not both? These ideas are not diametrically opposed. Why do people see things in such black & white? When will people see the gray?

[-] 1 points by BoycottCoke (275) 12 years ago

One, it's hard to pick up and leave a job when you have children and bills to pay, two, it's hard to find another job once you leave coke. They use this as a deterrent.

It would be easier to convince coke to make better products. One or two people might be able to afford to leave a job, but the reality is that a lot of workers can't afford to go months and even years without a job, specially the way things are now.

people are burdened to work for those that have money

food, shelter and health dictate that

[-] 1 points by BoycottCoke (275) 12 years ago

Exactly. I went 5 months without a job after Coca-Cola blocked me from getting a job, we have many cases where people lost everything they worked for years to get, so it is difficult for others, after seeing this, to just say "f" this and leave.

[-] 1 points by EagleEye (31) 12 years ago

Coke will be convinced of nothing as long as they have mindless humans to do anything for a dollar.

[-] 2 points by BoycottCoke (275) 12 years ago

I rather say.....uninformed.

However we are trying to inform them. We are receiving a lot of information from people who are coming forward.

Mainstream media has done a wonderful job at covering up for Coke's indiscretion, so it is up to those who know how things really are with coke, to come forward and tell the truth.

I think, things as they are now, will come to an end soon. The American people deserve to know the truth, before they support economically, a disgusting corporation like Coca-Cola.

Thank you for reading the posts and commenting.

Modern day Union leadership have abused their power. Demanding orrinly high wages for less hours of work. I don't blame the construction worker just the leadership. Union leadership is corrupt and are sucking the lifeblood out of company's. While Coke originally accepted contracts it is good that they are now taking a stand. Pay can only be so high.

[-] 2 points by BoycottCoke (275) 12 years ago

Actually, they took a pay cut, even though in this tough economy, Coke still made over 8% increase in profits.

I believe one can not knock another person for wanting an increase in wages, when the cost of living is always going up, and the very companies who are trying to keep them from getting a fair wage increase are making more and more profits.

Also only when we are willing to not get pay increase ourselves, then should we then expect others to do the same.

Bottom line is, money is less valuable as time goes by, it is only fair that the people get an increase in wages, so they can pay their own way, otherwise they will have to be relying on the government when they can't make ends meet.

As far as corruption, we need to deal with it accordingly.

Thank you for your comment. BC

Looks to me like the union is getting just what it wants for the workers... Less work required, and everybody will be paid equally, even if the pay will be zero.

Socialism equals is evil because it never seeks to lift those who seek to do better, but reduces everyone to an equal state of misery.

Strike is over, Coke gave them a new contract last night. Good for them!
