Listening to today's Congressional hearing on Hydraulic Fracking reminded me of the CEOs from the tobacco industry who testified years ago that they did not believe that "cigarettes caused cancer."
The Republican chairman and Republican committee members and their "experts" were hostile to the EPA administrator who testified that they had found evidence of contamination of drinking water aquifers and ground water tables.
The Republican chair kicked the guys who were doing a documentary on Fracking out of the room.
So now we hear these quasi-experts who have no peer review data testify that there "may" be other explanations for the EPA data, and that conclusions are wrong, etc. etc. etc. . . . Like "cigarettes don't cause cancer."
Yeah, right! You pump trillions and trillions of gallons of unknown substances into the ground and you ignore that fact that those chemicals seep and migrate.
EPA only drilled some monitoring wells in 2010. What happens when this gunk seeps and migrates?
America will rue the day that they let Hydraulic Fracking to occur unchecked.
Water aquifers are more precision than oil. Once an aquifer collapses or is contaminated, you have lost an extremely valuable resource, and you have fewer places to get your drinking water.
This is one small example of the power of lobbyists and the power of MONEY that OWS is protesting against.
