Everyone in OWS is a leader. The moment we single one person out, we push away part of the 99%.

When we differ on views, we stall... discussing and debating. When we agree and reach consensus, we change the nation.

People who 'need a leader' are pathetic.

Chris Hedges is a jackass by the way. Read what Sam Harris has to say about him. He's the sort of guy who speaks 'revolutionary' rhetoric from a penthouse and calls anyone he disagrees with a 'racist'.

Also, if he wants to identify as a 'socialist' that's fine, but he errs when he tries to speak for all 99-ers as believing as he does. His views do not represent the views of all of the protesters and he turns a lot of people off. Chris Hedges is the epitome of the so-called 'limousine leftist', the sort of guy who'd hang out for a few hours with the protesters by day then have dinner at a 5 star restaurant before retiring to a palatial penthouse at night. He is a regular contributor of the mainstream media he pretends to be excluded from.

The only thing I like about him is that he recognizes the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of both major parties, but Chris Hedges is primarily interested in Chris Hedges.

What rotten criticism of a writer who has clearly described what has gone wrong in our country and the world:

"The [OWS]protesters should be seen as 'conservatives' because they call for the restoration of the rule of law.”... “The real radicals have seized power,” Hedges asserted, “and they are decimating all impediments to the creation of a neo-feudalistic corporate state, one in which there is a rapacious oligarchic class, a thin managerial elite, and two-thirds of this country live in conditions that increasingly push families to subsistence level.”

Save your criticism for those that are oppressing you, not the ones who are helping to educate people.

One of the greatest strengths of this movement is that it does not have a leader, a leader can be corrupted, can be twisted can be made to make the whole movement look foolish.

No leader required.

LULZ

We don't need a leader, nor do we want one.

Exactly, we are a democracy. He has no right to be the leader because the media or elites decide to elect him for us.

We each are the president. We each are the leader.

I'll toast to that

I did. The major problem I have with Hedges is he identifies as a socialist. I think someone more middle of the road would be a better representation of everyone. I say that as a lefty myself. I just dont want to alienate our right wing protesters and make them feel as if they are not being represented.
