CHOOSING DEMOCRACY by a Grandson of Common Sense
How does someone rescue a world? The fact is that no one person does such a thing. The salvation of a planet, our planet, requires the efforts of millions, tens of millions, billions of people. And it is not enough to merely do good work. We must help to change the way our civilization is organized.
Allegiance to a royal elite has mostly faded from the world and has been replaced by obedience to the idea that "Great Wealth Confers Special Privileges." The transition from being ruled by royalty to being ruled by the most successful financial players has been taking place since the American Revolution began in 1775. During this same period, the middle class came into its own as many economies switched from agriculture to industrialization and services
The middle class can be called the revolutionary class, since it came into being thanks to political and technological revolutions. In many countries, the middle class is large enough to decide its own fate. If people living in poverty unite with the middle class, along with any and all people of good will, at least 999 in 1,000 will benefit.
