Forum Post: Capitalism Has a Fatal Flaw.... Hoarding!

Capitalism is the best economic system, but it needs to be re-designed. It is constantly creating obsolescence. And it is the responsibility of the system to have a plan for the workers who get displaced by the progress constant innovation and global trade brings about. Fairness needs to be enforced, because the theory of the laissez-faire capitalist proponents, namely that the 'rising tide lifts all boats', is a fraud. The rich tend to hoard. And hoarding led to WWII. Catastrophe is at stake.

You are a condescending prick, with apparently nothing to say of your own. Do you only know how to take pot-shots?

Hoard? First of all, have you looked at the US personal savings rate over the past 10 years? It's been negative, meaning we've been spending more than we earn or save by borrowing from foreign countries.

Secondly, capitalism has a way of preventing hoarding - it's called savings which then turns into investment which then gets directed towards innovative or profitable activities. This is the role of the banks but they were too busy gambling our money away by overly leveraging it on CDO's and CDS's only to have the whole scheme blow up in their face and force us to foot the bill.

Capitalism is not the problem - the marriage of Big Business and corrupt politicians is the fatal flaw in our society.

I keep hearing that businesses are sitting on somewhere between one and two trillion dollars and not using it to hire people. Sounds like hoarding to me. But you correctly point out another fatal flaw.... Thanks.

"And hoarding led to WWII." Sorry, nope. Corrupt and power-hungry dictators led the world into WWII. Same as every war.

I don't disagree, but one of the factors that led to WWII was the fact that the winners of WWI hoarded the natural resources from Germany, instead of rebuilding Germany. Germany then lashed out, bringing about WWII. We didn't make the same mistake after WWII. Power hungry dictators relied on this fertile ground to be able to take power.

But, if that is true, the winners of WWI you speak of, are the leaders of the victorious nations, not my neighbor's right to have a nicer house than I do.

I just gave you an example of hoarding on a large, international scale. But it illustrates, in my opinion, a flaw in capitalism as a whole, and can be applied universally, and on every level.

Yes. Like parents with children, fairness must be enforced. It doesn't just happen naturally. What happens naturally is that bullies take power and rule over the "weaker" members of society.
