It seems that so many have so many reasons for protesting, then the only single truth would be is, the entire system is broke. To fix that within our laws would be a call for a constitutional convention. Although a constitutional convention can only be call on one issue, it would allow for changes in all respects of government once it is done.
Just to follow up, there are two types constitutional conventions one is a State application and the other is a Federal. It seems Congress has the ability to put off State applications, but the Federal is mandated.

Yes, in the 70s there was a call on the issue of a balanced budget. It came to within two states votes but congress got scared and balanced the budget making it null and void.
