Thanks for posting! This is very fun to read. BTW, I appreciate all you folks relocating to the streets and parks. That takes resilience and courage. Frustrated39 is about where I am. ThisIsNotCapitalism, I so appreciate your responses. Resist being jumpy, I advise; potty humor and Star Trek references are shared culture of the gentlest kind. TINC, I also so appreciate bold resistance to the current srructures that frustrate all reasonable ideas of fairness. "Demands," "Leadership," are now in the same category as "Branding" in the prevailing politico/press rhetoric. Thanks for not "Speaking for the OWS Movement." I will continue my education on this and other sites. All of you who have read my comment this far, please go watch the movie "No Direction Home," a biopic of Bob Dylan. All the best, Jenni in Dallas

I'm really starting to think that there is no intent to:

1) Name a leader or group of leaders 2) Release a list of requests (see, I didn't say demands! Not trolling here!) 3) Release any sort of transparency related to group finances

for a couple of reasons.

-With no definitive leader or leaders, there is no responsibility and no one person to blame when things go wrong. It also apparently leads to it taking an inordinate amount of time to get things done or make significant decisions because of the way the NYCGA has decided to do things.

-With no specific demands, and no specific focus, it seems (IMHO) that the hope is that if your pet cause or issue has been mentioned or is represented at all, that you'll throw your hat into the ring. This forum doesn't really help to support that though, because with no set of leadership formally announced, no one using this forum can honestly say "Oh, we don't actually support that. That person is a (plant, CIA Operative, Troll, Cop, Teabagger, Dirtbagger, Hippie, Facist, Marxist...the list goes on and on), I can read a post about overthrowing the government, overthrowing the Fed, exterminating Jewish people, exterminating rich white people, fighting the man, fighting the police, fighting other protesters, fighting the 'brainwashed' other 99%. You get the picture. But not a single one of us can say that a post that seems ridiculous to us is or is not an issue that could be taken up by this cause.

-As far as not releasing financial info, you got me! Why did they stop posting minutes to the NYCGA website? Why is it that the only folks (as far as I can tell, I haven't had a chance to read through every post) who question the accounting and finances are those who are still undecided or not supporting this movement, and those who do support it don't seem bothered by it?

Look - I have never said I am against what I thought was the original idea behind this movement...trying to break the hold that some corporations and other interest groups have over our government. I came to this forum to try and figure out what direction this was going, and to see if I agreed with it. I have been saddened by the belief that seems to be present in some that if you ask questions or are trying to give an opinion that may not directly agree, you are just uninformed or brainwashed.

The attitude of "I'm right and you are wrong, because I said so!" or the idea that if people don't support this movement in the rest of the U.S., that it won't matter? That's what we get from our purchased government now. Why would any of the general public believe, if they visited this forum, that what this particular website espouses would be any better? Why do you feel that forcing your issues (and they are indeed numerous, and again, because of the vague premise it's hard to say what is NOT an issue that is supported in some way by at least some here) on the general public would be any better received than what our current administration and legislation dishes out?

I am asking this to give some constructive criticism. I still believe that this movement can make a difference, but speaking as a member of the general public that is nowhere near NYC...you gotta get it together. The view from the outside, at least in my neck of the woods, is that this thing is devolving and crumbling in on itself.

If those who champion this movement feel you don't need the support of folks like me...I don't know what to tell you. I cared enough to come here and ask questions and educate myself about what OWS was really all about. The problem is, I don't think OWS really knows. Individuals know what THEY think it's about, but no one person is any more qualified that another to state that.

When you try to stand for everything, you end up standing for nothing at all.

Just my unsolicited advice, take it or leave it.

You seem genuine in your questions. I have answered many in my other post from today:

http://occupywallst.org/forum/adult-conversation-with-occupy-detractors/

Not being lazy, just writing a paper. I started this post, mocking the relentless requests for "demands", which I do regret now to an extent, because you do appear genuine. I explain my take in that other post. To sum it up, at this point a specific figure-head is irrelevant and counter productive to the movement. It is too diverse anyhow just to offer someone up as media fodder.

Our grievances are very clear and it is futile to offer demands to a broken system, before it has been repaired. This would only sanction their power status, and serve to feed their hungry spin machine. They are running around frantically because we will not play their game. We do what they fear most, we speak direct and without pretension. They fear us because we don't walk in shadows like they do. A is A.

Young Tommy. Can you define communism, capitalism, aristocracy, plutocracy, oligarchy, proletarian or serf? Without going to Wikipedia, and using a modern relevant context? I, young chap, am what you would call a moderate capitalist with democratic tradition. Do you know what that means? I suppose you will respond vulgarly, to cover your tracks or... If you are not as ignorant as you just presented yourself, you would like to put on your big boy pants and join an adult conversation.

[-] 1 points by Tommiethenoncommie (211) 13 years ago

I know what I know. Out of respect I will answer you. Communism- unequal pay according to work done. Capitalism- the use of money to invest and gain a profit. Aristocracy- rule by a powerful few. Plutocracy- rule by the wealthy. Oligarchy- rule by family name. Proletarian- a working person. Serf- one bound to a land forced to work by a landowner.

Trusting that you didn't cheat, mind you, how could a person with that knowledge contribute THAT to the conversation. I'm overreacting aren't I? Well touché, Tommy the very non commie, I am non commie as well so we'll always have that. Right? Forgive me, I have been churning out term papers all weekend and have slept very liitle. :) Have a good one!

[-] 1 points by Tommiethenoncommie (211) 13 years ago

I hope we have a good stock market week. Just a one percent rise puts $20,000 in my pocket. We should have a good roll toward the end of the year here.

Cheers!
