The first public news from the annual meeting, shows ALEC still making headway, despite the slight rise in negative press.

"Recently leaked documents from the ALEC Board Meeting, Aug. 6, 2013, Chicago, Illinois, list the number and percentage of each state's legislature that have signed onto ALEC. Under "# of Legislators," and "# of ALEC Members," Iowa has 150 in each column, and South Dakota has 105 in each column. The third column, for both states, shows the "% of ALEC Membership in Legislature" as being "100%." At the opposite end, the lowest percentage is 1%, in New York. The second-lowest is New Jersey, 2%. The third and fourth lowest, tied, are just 4%, in both Maine and Vermont. The fifth-lowest is New Hampshire, 6%. That table appears on page 39 of the report."

You got to love the oath.

No sense in biting the hand that bribes.

"I will act with care and loyalty and put the interests of the organization first."

Sworn on a stack of dividend reports, no doubt.

Who needs any kind of constitution when you have those.

Scumbags.

There are still those that doubt the veracity of my statement.

ALEC, destroying democracy, one State at a time.

Every time I look, that statement becomes clearer.

Ya, but we know who they are and why they do that.

I wonder if they will comment on the "oath?

Not these dirtbags.

Maybe they'll comment on those "legislators" refusing to sign an oath to Democracy then?

There is so much focus on template legislation written by ALEC and paid for by the Koch brothers, that Americans furious their democracy is being stolen, their tax dollars handed to the rich, and their government transferred to corporate rule forget that without loyal Republicans introducing and voting for ALEC’s laws in state legislatures and Congress, America’s democracy would not be in jeopardy. The irony is that the Kochs, ALEC, the Heritage Foundation, Americans for Prosperity, the Cato Institute, and the State Policy Network are using the democratic process to dismantle America’s democracy, but it is through the democratic process that Americans can neuter those groups, take back their democracy, and force government to follow the will of the people and not the interests of the rich.

I highly doubt it.

Even when it's proven that ALEC is at the forefront of things like anti-GMO labeling, they refuse to "go there".

http://www.prwatch.org/news/2013/11/12318/ALECs-extreme-legislative-agenda-for-2014

Instead using vague terms like "they", and "TPTB".

I guess they're afraid reality will smash their paradigm against the nearest wall, so they pretend ALEC doesn't matter.

[-] -2 points by GirlFriday (17435) 10 years ago

They do a hell of a lot of pretending.

That goes without saying............................:)
