We should all analyze our lifestyles and figure out how we are supporting the greed and eliminate it. Any suggestions of some mainstream things that we can cut back on. What are some suggestions of what we can boycott specifically?

If you're interested on this, then check out http://opensourceecology.org/ And watch a short (4 minutes) introductory TED video: http://www.ted.com/talks/marcin_jakubowski.html
" Global Village Construction Set (GVCS) is an open source, low-cost, high performance technological platform that allows for the easy, DIY fabrication of the 50 different Industrial Machines that it takes to build a sustainable civilization with modern comforts. The GVCS lowers the barriers to entry into farming, building, and manufacturing and can be seen as a life-size lego-like set of modular tools that can create entire economies, whether in rural Missouri, where the project was founded, in urban redevelopment, or in the developing world."
Some kind of boycott is the only thing these life forms will understand. You can walk around in the street forever and nothing will change. The only thing they will respond to is if you have hit them in the wallet. Look how George Bush ignored the whole anti-Iraq war movement with no consequence. There is no social conscience left and the system is not willing to do the right thing by the people, so it has to be forced. How about stop using credit cards and stop paying atm fees :b
Boycotting is not a tool, it is the solution! You must quit participating in the system you are attempting to bring down. The off grid movement has little to do with being green and everything to do with FREEDOM! Boycott everything you can!! Grow your own food, generate your own power, etc. The corrupt system is only being sustained because we willingly involve ourselves in it. Stop participating and the whole system will come crashing down. Be carefull and sure of what you wish for though, this 'corrupt system' and 'corporate greed' and 'CAPITALISM' is what has brought you all the comforts of life. You take it away and be prepared to survive on your own. This is a great video that explains the dilemma beautifully... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1560388108644561405&hl=en
I'm currently boycotting the IRS. I haven't paid my taxes in years.
there seems to be one new boycott thread every 5 or 6 hours. each time we point out its not a very useful idea. Be nice if folks would read the forum before posting.
It was intended to be a fresh reminder of that option ;)
and how is that anything other than annoyance to people like me who are trying to guide things along into some kind of real evolutionary path? Do you bother to think about the work you are creating for the entire batch of the rest of us? How many times do we need to shoot this down and how selfish can you be with the time and energy of everyone else? Its not a good idea, we don't need any fresh reminders.
People probably would if it was not such a mess, a bit of organization like things getting bumped back to the top when new reply is made would help cut down the redundant posts.
yeah, theres some sort of smart relevency meter that prevents bumping of old posts. I have asked repeatedly to discuss creating assorted sub forums and linked chronically to a long winded FB note on the subject. Still no response from anybody over here. I have been in IRC chat and had the mods create a new chat room over it. still no response. If there was a sub forum for a suggestion box, everyone would see instantly this has been suggested 20 times and rejected each time.
boycotts never quite work, they look good on paper but always wind up hurting the little guy faster then it ever hurts the top.
Like when people were boycotting BP gas stations the individual gas station owners were hurt by the lost sales, BP hardly flinched.
Well we can still support the little guy but there are lots of things that we don't need that (farmers markets instead of Grocery stores, Thrift stores instead of the mall for clothes, Protests instead of concerts, state parks instead of amusement parks, water instead of coca cola.) I can think of many things like Smoking cigarettes that make corporate money dumpsters rich which we can give up.
Stop shopping at walmart, target, and basically all big chain stores. Also it would be interesting to see how the banks would react if we all withdrew our money from the banks at the same time.
Pretty much nothing. You guys wouldn't make a dent in the sales figures of any company you'd care about impacting.
But on a kind of related note, smartphones/tablets would be a good idea to stop using. Kind of kills the whole anti-wallstreet thing when you're rocking out to your iPod touch, texting on your iPhone while playing Angry Birds on your iPad.
I agree. That is true
