My idea to get the attention of the criminals at the large oil companies was and still is this. (can this be considered as a tactic on black friday) ? I originally thought Thursday would be a better day for most than a Friday but since its started already no problemo. EVERYBODY would it be possible to boycott big oil with a lunchtime (12:01pm) sit-in boycott at the gas pumps in which people park their cars in front of the gas pumps and either eat their lunch, make cell phone calls, read a book or just occupy the space oil companies need to make their millions? We must stand against these CEOs and ex-VP Cheney for their private white house meeting that wasnt recorded as happening, no minutes were taken and the attending oil CEOs were not named. 8mos. later gas prices topped $3.00 a gallon for the first time ever. Boycott big oil at the pump on Nov. 5
Boycotting all 1% entities completely would be better. Try Back Friday and Cyber Monday to start.
Boycott Black Friday http://occupywallst.org/forum/black-friday-boycott/
Your correct but it would qet attention and could be the beqining of a more sustained effort to occupy the space they need to operate. Besides its a great covered space for kicking back at lunch
haha, nice idea. Get like a gallon of gas every day and talk on the phone for 15 minutes each time.
I was thinking about black friday.. people could protest or do something at the malls to get people to stop buying crap.
The sad fact is, you will never get enough people to go along with a massive boycott large enough to actually make a difference. The old ways of disruption are outdated and need to be shelved. Besides, with all of the laws and money floating around DC, the politicians will ensure that those companies you don't like will get along just fine. Until this movement gets some direction and takes everyone to DC, nothing will change. You don't affect the corporations bottom line enough for them to not contribute to DC, so nothing will change on that end. As DC knows their cash cows will keep producing milk, they will continue to protect them. Look at what the TEA Party did in the 2010 elections. Like them or not, they got real results that changed the landscape of the House of Representatives. Start at the local level and make changes in your state legislatures and then move up to the national level. If this movement is to be "grass roots", then the changes have to start from the ground up as well. We will not be able to change the culture of DC through sitting in parks, but we can affect real change in the political culture by bringing up a new generation of leaders that are actually of the people and for the people.
Sadly, that thought isn't welcomed on this board. I guess now the separate Occupy boards are all their own movements? I was told by another poster to go to the DC board if I didn't feel their letter writing stunt was effective.
OWS - do you, or do you not need the rest of us around the country who offer other opinions about changing the system? If you are going to continuously shut down those of us who offer other ideas or solutions to cause real change, then you can never hope to grow your movement to the level it needs to be to actually be effective.
This movement is too disorganized and directionless to ever have a positive effect. Either the cold or the cities getting sick of this will end it before too long.
Those ideas never work. People still need to buy the gas. Even if everybody in America couldn't buy gas that one day, they'll just return to the pump in droves the following day. The single worst day in gas sales will be followed by the single biggest day. And guess what? Demand will exceed supply and prices will skyrocket.
Won't work.
