As I type, this I am sniffling...my ears are ringing. I dont feel good. I can tell you that I spent the night sleeping in a heated home under blankets. However, the Occupiers in New York City are getting hit with whatever is outside and living in close proximity of each other.
This has now become a protest of attrition. Bloomberg is sitting back and waiting. As the weather gets worse, people get sicker. Eventually someone will die at Zucotti thereby turning public opinion against the Occupiers even more so then it is now.
The very camps that made the movement will now destroy the movement. They should have just declared victory a few weeks ago and moved on. They should have elected a leader.
It is a shame that good people are getting victimized by all this. The people, the politicians and corporate executives who they target, will not ever be victimized at all. It will be the poor innocent people in the camps.
Flu, STDs, lice and an assorted array of infectious diseases will thin the herd of OWS miscreants.
Elect a leader.. that's funny.
They should not elect a leader, they should appoint a monarch.
You seem pretty confused. One of the WORST things this movement could do would be to elect a leader. Another one of the WORST things this movement could do would be to close down the camp.
Im not confused, I address reality. The reality is your model is truly flawed. While you can battle back the police, you can't battle back disease with how things are setup. There are good reasons why there is no camping allowed in certain places and, unfortunately, you will now see why it isnt allowed.
There will either be one of three things that takes place: 1) Murders, suicides or deaths which will force the Mayor's hand and utterly destroy what positive public opinion there is on Occupy 2) fire - fire spreads faster then you think. In minutes a campsite like that could be up in flames over just a cigarette butt 3) disease - I dont need to explain further.
I believe #3 is most likely. Give it another few weeks. When people die of disease or get some kind of illness like tuberculosis who will you blame? The city? The government? because they failed to stop this?
Finally, someone who understands.
Its only October, none of the New York protestors and many of the others are going to make it through a very harsh winter. If they don't die, they will be forced to vacate because of disease. It was pretty stupid to plan to camp forever at the onset of winter. If they had any sense they would pack up and go home until the spring. Living around feces and urine in the cold is so unhealthy. Whats the point of a movement if its going to kill you without getting your message across?
