Kinda hard to deny that the movement does have progressive leanings and that some of our members would have democratic leanings. In the end we all want the same thing: less corporate influence in politics

You all have to remember that this forum doesn't necessarily represent the General Assembly =)

That's all I'm saying.

Regarding your "call to end representative democracy". That's not what it's saying. Here is the post you refer to - it is about the electoral college. I'm not going to bother with your other points.

"The electoral college was put in place to prevent real Democracy from occurring. The Founding fathers put many impediments in the way of real democracy as frightened as they were by the masses. Democracy means rule by the majority, it's a simple concept. The logic of large majorities overwhelming small minorities is ridiculous and non-sensical. You say "candidates could be elected by winning just a few large cities,'????????? WTF????? Are you kidding me? Candidates win by winning a majority of the votes like in probably every other place in the world. Only in America, could someone win the majority by a significant margin (Gore) and the minority candidate win (Bush). The college is a throwback to when the Wealthy needed the mechanism to protect their interests. It is undemocratic, non-sensical and absurd. The reasons for it have been examined by political scientists and none of the rational holds up. Democracy is suppose to reflect the interests of actual humans not pieces of real estate (States). Already, we have another institution which gives massive power to under-populated states (the Senate) and it should be abolished ASAP. Wyoming with a population of a mere 600,000 people has the same number of Senators as Calif.!!!!! The ten most populated states with a population of over half the total population of the U.S. has the same number of Senators as the 10 least populated states whose total population represents less than 5% of the that to the U.S. as a whole. The whole system we have is massively antiquated and long overdue for an overhaul. No doubt the Plutocracy loves all this because it makes it easier to maintain their control of the govt."

I'm just saying the summary is a bit off. The cut and paste (yes, lengthy) is because posts are deleted/edited.

Hey, you might like this post. Too bad we can't vote on posts themselves, only on comments.

I am.

"Only 500 billion of the stimulus went to Government employee unions" And still spinning...

Bullshit. You inserted government unions into the discussion as if fact. Not even worth arguing because the numbers so obviously don't support that.

So your conjecture is that which part:

$288 billion in tax cuts.

$224 billion in extended unemployment benefits, education and health care.

$275 billion for job creation using federal contracts, grants and loans.

Went to government unions? So we can be clear. Some portion of the 2nd bullet I assume - that equals $500B...

You're a piece of work Mike, I'll grant you that. Education is the only one I give you, and did from the start. Solyndra has nothing to do with government unions. Do you have a specific percentage of "contracts, grants and loans" that went to horrible unworthy people instead of valiant ones?

you've just scared out all of those who disagree with you rather than engaging them in discussion. Until you listen and consider other points of view and quit bashing right-wingers, you will never really be the 99%.

I don't mean to accuse you personally but my view points have been attacked rather viciously on this forum to the point where I don't feel comfortable engaging in the discussion anymore. I find myself writing comments and then clicking cancel because I don't want to futilely waste the time. I started a blog out of this frustration, so thats good, but it really only reaches those who agree with my views already. http://poignantpersuasion.tru.ph

Here is a quick summary of responses I have received in the last 20 minutes, simply for having a dissimilar view:

"Okay, let me explain to you. We're like animals in a pet shop. We're staging a breakout of the shop - out of the whole damn system - into the wild. And you're the hamster who says you don't want to participate because you got to run on your wheel."

"so that you can get to work and please your boss for $15 an hour? There is a revolution taking place"

"Oh IC Conservatives are for small Gov't like the MIC right? So called Conservatives are for FASCISM and if you don't believe it then your an idiot."

All of them are demeaning, presumptuous, condescending, and insulting. This is no way to engage. And this is why you drive away a good portion of the 99%.

If you don't hear out contrary viewpoints, you will never have to opportunity to convince or change.

to expect people to participate but be silent is awfully selfish. The exchange of ideas is not a one way street. We want to contribute our ideas just as much as the other side does. We want the same things but we are attacked and not considered.

I merely am trying to explain how I think the comments now favor the ideals you speak of. The opposing view points have fled and soon will have to do the same.
