I was watching a segment of the Clinton concert for charity, which from all appearances does 'good' work. But, fundamental issues with how our democracy has been hijacked are no longer drawn by party lines.People will raise millions of dollars for charity and do 'good' work but as long as we don't take back our democracy from monied interests, our interests will never be addressed and there will continue to be a 'need' for hand-outs from the 1%. Opportunities are not available to all in the same manner as those at the top and big money will always find ways to 'appear' like they're working in our best interest - just watch an Exon or Chevron commercial. This is a form of 'trickle-down' - people in power are there because of money and money is what drives the people in power. We have to cut the feeding tube to those who work this way. Voting won't work until we can say our congress isn't bought by any side, any political organization, any left-wing, right-wing group. The inequality in this world is created by this sense of 'entitlement' of the power brokers (1%) and they appease their guilt of being 'entitled' by setting up charities, donating millions of dollars to feed those less fortunate, but on the other slight of hand they are spending millions on special interests to make sure they continue to be the 1%. Charity is no longer 'enough' because people are on to the 'game' - we need to take money out of politics. We need to demand tax-payer funded campaigns, and a cap on the amount spent on a chosen candidate's campaign. IF we do this we'll put the 'public' back in public servant.
Amen.
