Anyone thinking about this thing in the old terms of left, right, Democrat, Republican, etc...is either not paying attention or isn't really involved.

[-] 1 points by owstag (508) 13 years ago

Awesome - thumbs up. You said it. It's got to be the 99%, not the 49%. Our common enemy will try to frame this as a false left/right dichotomy, when in fact it is not about right and left but right and wrong.

[-] 1 points by mgiddin1 (1057) from Linthicum, MD 13 years ago

Yes, great observation.

[-] 2 points by IndpendentTX (9) 13 years ago

There needs to be more visible demonstration that this is not a Democrat movement but a movement by a non-partisan group against the corporate political machine. More signs protesting Democrats people!

Also make more signs that clearly state that both parties can get lost. They're BOTH part of the problem.

[-] 1 points by BadAss0830 (68) 13 years ago

YES!

[-] 1 points by owstag (508) 13 years ago

Thumbs up!

LOL. Do you people get irony? Democrats: Bad! Other, um, people, GOOD!

What circular logic nonsense.

"More signs protesting democrats"? Fuck that. How about more signs protesting idiots who think guns are the answer:

[-] 1 points by IndpendentTX (9) 13 years ago

Feel free to do that, but my point is that both Democrats and Republicans feed into the corporatism and divisiveness that is hurting the country. If we let the Democrats claim the movement for themselves, then it becomes just another group of liberals feeding into the political machine that is dividing our nation. Putting out more signs protesting certain Democrats for their part in this will make it more difficult for the media to claim this as a completely left-wing movement. It is not.

[-] 1 points by groobiecat2 (746) from Brattleboro, VT 13 years ago

You misunderstand me: I'm disappointed by the democrats as well, but the solutions I've heard from the republicans are as bad or worse. My point was that I didn't see a bipartisan revulsion in your comment, only a partisan revulsion.

I don't think the movement should be co-opted by any group, but to ignore that the philosophical underpinnings of the #OWS are much closer to the traditional "pro-community" agenda of the democrats vs. the traditional "pro business" agenda seems disingenuous and false.

"Putting out more signs protesting certain Democrats for their part in this will make it more difficult for the media to claim this as a completely left-wing movement"

This makes no sense. Who gives a damn what the MSM claim or don't claim. If you're non-partisan, you have to be non-partisan. Period. Going after the democrats because you're afraid they'll try to take over the movement is silly. Simply don't let it happen.

And BTW, what I'd like to see is more protests from the so-called "co-opted" Tea Party folks against the "fake" or "corporate" Tea Party. Wait, I've never seen that. Once. I don't buy it, sorry; the TP has been a right wing arm from the beginning; it's never supported democrats, and it went over Obama one week after he was elected for TARP, even though they were silent when Bush was working on it.

Sorry. I need proof; not protestations...

We no longer accept the idea of political ownership. It is the corporate media wolves trying to define us as Republicrat's, because they want to deny there is a Revolution happening here and all over the globe. They so desperately need to define us because they are scared shitless of us. They pretend to not comprehend our agenda, they keep saying we don’t know what we want. They only see in Republicrat terms. Both parties Rep. and Dem. alike have had a direct hand in passing legislation that has aided in this ponzi scheme whereby we, the 99% have been robbed of our wealth and savings and dignity. This is a global societal movement/revolution, which I am proud to be witnessing and participating in. Together with all our brothers and sisters of the world we will effect global change so we can all enjoy our right to abundance.

And I can claim to own the moon. The moon just shouldn't agree with me.

They wish they did. But, they don't. Probably the GOP does too, as they cry into their pillows.

But, they don't. Am I cool with it? As Sarah, said, "You betcha!" We are the 99%, what political party wouldn't like a bullet proof majority? But, will they buy us dinner? Show me the money.

Ummm, in a word - no.

Democrats and Republicans have proven themselves to be as a whole - corrupt, unworthy of our faith, and panderers to special interests and corporations.

I view them as Coke and Pepsi. Make the people think they have a choice. Make them think there is a difference between the two (however superficial). Keep the two fighting. Divide and Conquer. Keep the spoils whilst the idiots fight amongst themselves.

http://occupywallst.org/forum/we-are-vox-populi/

Our government does not have the constitutional authority to hire a private bank to manipulate global currencies.

We will not fix any of our economic problems as long as the Federal Reserve is employed by the US government.

We the People wage war against the multinational corporate lobbyists who have assumed control of our government.

We the People will not give up until our goals are achieved.

We the People will continue to educate our fellow countrymen on these issues.

We must take the state of the economy into consideration when choosing our battles.

Our economy is unstable, and unsustainable.

Our economy will become infinitely more unstable if we take money out of politics without firing the Federal Reserve. This is not a "your opinion" "my opinion" type of thing...this is the current economic paradigm.

We are a movement against the current socio-political paradigm.

We are a movement for, of, and by the American populous and constitution.

We do not align ourselves with any politician.

We are the politicians.

We understand the issues at hand.

We cannot provide all of the solutions. Solutions lie within a new body of legislators, free from greed and corruption.

We are Vox Populi.

We do not forgive. We do not forget.

[-] 1 points by Brett77 (22) from Ellijay, GA 13 years ago

If you can't forgive nor forget you will sooner or later end in violence....

[-] 1 points by Poplicola (125) from Jersey City, NJ 13 years ago

no comment. when police suppress the voice of the populous we resist until we are heard.

[-] 1 points by Brett77 (22) from Ellijay, GA 13 years ago

how about it's not about what they did do, or did not do, it's about what they will do from now on.

Or are you one of those people who still believe in eye for an eye?

[-] 1 points by Poplicola (125) from Jersey City, NJ 13 years ago

nope. i'm one of those people that will deliver my message at all cost. if the police interfere, violence will ensue. if the police allow peaceful protests to continue, peaceful protests will continue.

[-] 1 points by mgiddin1 (1057) from Linthicum, MD 13 years ago

They will send provocateurs. They have already done 'kettling' - penning in those women and spraying them. They will try to provoke.
We must not riot or incite violence, even if they do. Otherwise, we are paving the way for a police state.

[-] 1 points by Poplicola (125) from Jersey City, NJ 13 years ago

truth.

[-] 1 points by Brett77 (22) from Ellijay, GA 13 years ago

How about Ghandi, ML King, and many others? Do you know any of the natural laws of the universe? What you send in the world will always find its way back to you. What is your true hatred about? Unless you can find love and use this as your source, wherever you go, you will only find the same frustrations, only in a different package

[-] 1 points by Poplicola (125) from Jersey City, NJ 13 years ago

i love the world. i love the world's inhabitants. i hate the current socio-political, socio-economic paradigm and i focus all of my negative energy to bring the system down for the betterment of mankind.

[-] 1 points by Brett77 (22) from Ellijay, GA 13 years ago

I can feel your passion and devotion, why focus your negative energy when there are meditative ways to transmute it? You might actually grow a severe illness in your body if you keep nurturing this negative energy. I know your intentions are good and wish you much joy in your adventures

[-] 1 points by Poplicola (125) from Jersey City, NJ 13 years ago

how would you recommend i transmute this negative energy?

[-] 1 points by Brett77 (22) from Ellijay, GA 13 years ago

It takes a lot of inner strength and courage to conquer your own fears. Remember the matrix? Everything around truly is a creation of your own mind. When you feel ready you quiet your mind and focus on that anger, let it come up, it won't kill you, then you allow it to reach your heart. At first it will seem like your heart is being broken to pieces, then you will notice that your heart transmutes it and the cause of this anger was nothing but a little fear

[-] 1 points by Poplicola (125) from Jersey City, NJ 13 years ago

i like you, thanks for the input.

[-] 1 points by Brett77 (22) from Ellijay, GA 13 years ago

thx, my love to you too good luck!

[-] 1 points by WhyIsTheCouchAlwaysWet (316) from Lexington, KY 13 years ago

Stop trying to hijack threads. It isn't polite. You have your own thread, several of them if I'm not mistaken.

[-] 1 points by mgiddin1 (1057) from Linthicum, MD 13 years ago

[-] 1 points by brightonsage (4494) 13 years ago

[-] 1 points by MikeyD (581) from Alameda, CA 13 years ago

Tea party goes youth vote. Exciting! Vote out the corporate stooges!!!

[-] 1 points by GWGhomeboy (17) 13 years ago

no, not Cool With The Democrats Taking Ownership of OWS

[-] 1 points by MrsPhil (151) 13 years ago

No. It's a scheme to keep us polarized. Another poster in this forum described the two political parties perfectly, "Same shidt, different pile." Lol.

[-] 1 points by unended (294) 13 years ago

The beautiful thing about OWS is that it is impossible to coopt as long as it remains a public occupation. It is the people occupying the public space that are undeniably the movement. Its constant public presence prevents anybody from speaking on its behalf, at least with any credibility. They can speak about it, but they can't be it, because it is always there out in the open for everybody to see.

[-] 1 points by Skippy (7) 13 years ago

Life long Dem here. The dems want to use our Protest to divert attention from them for next election. Obama admin has done nothing but make a bad situation worse.

[-] 1 points by kilroy (58) from Orlando, FL 13 years ago

We need SOVEREIGN RULE of the economy by the people and an elimination of money from public office and campaigns

That said it will take political muscle to push this movement. All should be welcome. If someone declares support the TAKE THEM TO TASK AND DEMAND ACCOUNTIBALITY ON WHAT THEY WILL SUPPORT AND HAVE THEM BROADCAST THE MESSAGE.

[-] 1 points by TimUwe (39) 13 years ago

NO I AM NOT! This movement is being used by Democrats to further their agenda and to hide what people are really fed up with.

[-] 1 points by karai2 (154) 13 years ago

What are the people really fed up with?

[-] 1 points by TimUwe (39) 13 years ago

IMO the status quo; crony capitalism and corrupt government.

[-] 1 points by karai2 (154) 13 years ago

I'm on board with that too. The amount of money that floods into the electoral process from special interests is absurd and corrosive. I have voted democratic in the past but the DNC, Move On, George Soros and the democrats in power don't control me. I am perfectly on board with getting special interest money out of politics, both corporate and union money. Corporations should be reinvesting that money in the economy not buying special favors from politicians.

[-] 1 points by TimUwe (39) 13 years ago

I hear ya. The system is totally corrupt. You should look at Ron Paul. I'm a libertarian. I joined the Republican party to change it. I'm encouraging all libertarians to to do the same, Republican or Democrat. It's also my mission to teach as many as I can about Libertarianism. It is the only philosophy of liberty and peace.
