Well that makes this whole thing seem kind of pointless...

It's not pointless! But I don't think we should fight for job creation. We need to acknowledge publicly what's happening and then change the system to take it into account.

Yes this exactly. The point is to cause change, not to decide what change needs to be caused. Once change is in motion, THEN we can worry about the details.

Yep! We just need to get the info out there to make sure everyone is aware of the change that is happening right now concerning automation. So many people are stuck in the old mind state of having to work a job to survive that they're closed minded to any other system.

The first step is to get people talking about it, then they will hopefully acknowledge it, then there will be change.

This whole thing isn't pointless. It's just misdirected. Which, well, is what happens when you get this many people together protesting. This issue isn't something as simple as the civil rights movements of racial freedom and gender equality. The people who are being oppressed are a more nebulous list and the causes of the oppression, while easy to label as "corporations and government corruption" are not as simple as that in itself.

But this protesting still has a point, and that point is to make it clear to the people in control that their incessant bickering and misdirected policy semantics quibbling is doing nothing but making the American people increasingly unrestful.

The point of this protest is to make clear that the problem(financial inequality), whatever its cause, is no longer going to be tolerated and to force the people with the power(corporate executives and government officials) to take decisive action instead of playing the political smokescreen campaign and making empty and vague promises with no real direction. And that point is very much worth the effort.

In other words, simply getting as many people as possible actively protesting, even if they can't agree upon the particulars other than what they're generally angry about, is in and of itself sufficient.

I have a friend who is a psych major and we've been discussing this issue the past few months. This article is a great explanation of what's going on.

Cool! If you haven't heard of it, the Venus Project may have some good ideas.
