Forum Post: Arab Spring Model Is A Failure, Now A Far More Viable Replacement

So it's been quite some time since the creation of this movement. As of yet it has failed to get anything of substance except media coverage. Now it shouldn't be misunderstood that coverage is indeed important, however there exists another side to acheiving the goals of the movement as a whole. Right now there is simply an excess of flash rather then substance when it comes to fundamentaly changing the nation. I will note this only as a hypothesis but it would appear that the most effective way of acheiving victory for the side of Occupy Wall street would be to support a the inception of an alternative political party that has the movements desires and goals at its core. Just as there are the republicans and the democrats that have their own basses of support , it seems reasonable to beleive that this would work fairly well as long as this movement does in fact represent the 99%. The Arab Spring model will simply not work in this country as in such an instance it is often ignored that the environment there was far worse and therefore their particular movement was able to gain the vast majority of the population of their side. In any violent revolution as had occured there it must exist a particular environment that is able to cultavate enough frustration form the people. This again is not the fact in this country where freedom and the basic needs of the people are met. In the past only when things such as food and shelter are not available to the majority do the people support a true and violent revolution. In this country i will stress once more that this is not the case by any means. Therefore the most effective way is to work within the means of the current system to change it to a model more consistant with the overarching goals of occupy wall street. By creating an official and viable political party (not simply supporting an existing one but again creating a new alternative party like that of the green movement which is an actual "party"). Again, if this movement is the 99% and can bolster these numbers as votes then this movement would have an actual possibility of beating both the republicans and the democrats at their own game. Not only this but if the OWS can indeed do this then it would make it one of the first partys other then the current big two to ever seat its own presidential canadate. If the movement succeeded in such a bold and audatiouse move then one could only imagin how long it would be before all of the current government could be replaced by the movements own canadates. The movement has no hope of gaining any change over our system with its current path, not unless seriouse devestation were to happen to the majority of the population. It is by working within our system and using it to the movements advantage that it can beat and reform the system completly. However to close this post i will say that this is only possible if the movement represents the numbers of people it claims to. If the movement however is only a fringe movement like its critics claim then even by creating its own party it would only succeed in making yet another farce of a party that only serves to bolster the dreams of the deluded. If this movement is the majority, the peoples voice, or in other words the true face of the people as a whole then this route is completly rational and feasible rather then the potshots that it has been attempting until now.

Have you read the 99% Declaration? Call it the OWS Resolves.

OWS beats the drum of the 1st Amendment right of the people peaceably to assemble but yet when I mention the 1st Amendment right to petition the government for a redress of grievances I hear that that is not what OWS stands for, it's heirarchical, it's treasonous, or simply it's impossible. I appreciate that drafting that list is going to be a difficult task but I don't see how OWS is going to actually change anything if people don't use the right to petition as strongly as they've used the right to peaceably assemble.

I think OWS should morph into OLB, Occupy Liberty Bell or OIH Occupy Independence Hall. Have small peaceful assemblies all winter long spreading the word about the National General Assembly starting July 4th in Philadelphia. Ask the people of Philadelphia to invite their fellow Americans into their homes for the NGA and coordinate this all winter too. Have occasional "occupations" throughout the winter, growing in size as the spring approaches, the WE ARE THE 99% growing louder with each event. This keeps the light shining and the movement looks smart, smells like a rose. Imagine the city of Philadelphia's population doubling or tripling for four days in July 2012. Some ideas are just plain better than others.

NGA NOW all roads lead to Philadelphia https://sites.google.com/site/the99percentdeclaration/
