So I want to run for Congress, and I've got until February 1st, to raise $750, or collect 500 signatures...
Anyone here have part of $750 they can loan me indefinitely?
I consider myself a progressive liberal. Here's my blog: http://betterliberalarguments.blogspot.com/
I am still WAY short of my goal...
Okay, so one person has told me they'll pay for the whole filing fee.
I am still way off of my goal, and I don't think I am going to get enough $5 donations...
So should I accept the donation and try to make a difference, or fail before I start by my principles?
The donations have begun rolling in!!!
Ill give you 5$ buddy . Ive been thinking about running against my congressman In my district of Texas . Kay Granger she s a dirt bag whore who voted for the bailouts..Tell me is this Feb Ist deadline for the state of Texas.Cause I might just be able to pay the fee on time if it is?
It looks like I'll be returning your donation...
Yup...and it MAY get pushed back given the Supreme Court just got done hearing the arguments about the current set of re-districting maps.
At present, the filing day will only be open for ONE day, February 1st.
With that, I'd liked to URGE you to run, even if it will result in a political loss. We can not allow these people to run unopposed.
I plan to run a FREE campaign, and refuse any and all campaign donations.
Thanks for the advice I guess you would go down to your local county court house. This could be a great oppurtunity for alot of occupy Texans.
Given it is a national office, you'll have to file in Austin...
I know it is a pain in the ass, but duty calls my friend. Pony up!
ok Im-in-like-flynn if you are:.Austin is bout 3 hours away for you its 4 ill carpool with ya.
Did you send anything?
Now that sounds like a great idea. I've got 3 days worth of rental car to use.
E-mail me, and let's discuss details.
aknabe1@hotmail.com
*I am not accepting donations greater than $5.
Can none of you afford $5???
It should be pretty easy to get 750$ from your friends, or by taking up an odd job for a few days. What's the purpose of asking complete strangers on the Internet for it?
I'd LIKE to be an OWS 'supported' candidate...
You don't have a single friend that supports OWS? What about going in person to your nearest Occupy headquarters? I'm just saying this because many people don't feel comfortable giving money to people online. There's been a lot of scams in the past.
I think if you'll review my blog, you'll see that I am 'one of you', and not interested in scamming anyone.
I live in a small Texas town with about 2300 people, and indeed none of them support OWS.
And, I have indeed submitted this same request to the Dallas OWS site. *It hasn't even gotten a single response yet... :(
I'm not saying that you're trying to scam anyone.
Great...because I'm not.
So, where's all the love!?!?
Just ignore the trolls. They're on the offensive because they see someone on this forum actually doing someone.
Unfortunately, I doubt that many people have the spare cash to get you on the ballot. I would try going door-to-door as asking that you get a fair shot in the election. While I think going door-to-door and expressing liberal views in a +28R district is unproductive, asking to be on the ballot is something that I think everyone can agree with.
Worst case...talk to your local credit union for a small loan.
Given I AM an OWS'er, I understand the nature of our financial state(s).
Going door-to-door is a no go, given I am disabled, in a wheelchair, and unable to reach most doorbells. :)
I'll run a letter to the editor this week, asking district members for support.
But 'ideally' I want to be backed by OWS.
Lol! That was a funny mistake. I think you're watching too much porn in between publishing comments.
lol
lol
I would love to contribute. I think what you're doing is wonderful. Is there a PO Box or something on your blog?
Send Donations to:
Knabe for Congress
P.O. Box 679
Muenster, TX 76252
*Please provide a SASE with your donation, so that I can return it, if I do not collect enough to file for my run.
My blog now accepts all major credit cards...
Pay Pal is cool
[Removed]
It's where I get my mail.
You can send cash, checks, money orders, or personal checks, made out to "Knabe for Congress", but again please include a SASE.
I'll keep a running total on my blog, after I get the first donation.
Fuck No
My campaign slogan is "Vote SMART, or NOT at all."
If you haven't COMPLETELY reviewed this record: http://www.votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/21706/
DON'T VOTE...
He's got over $400,000 in campaign funds, so I have to run a different kind of race.
Right now he's facing a primary challenge from a 31 years in, Army Lieutenant Colonel, Pam Barlow ( http://sendmetocongress.us/ ). She's a Tea Party candidate.
There will also be a Keith Dyer on the ballot, as an Independent, although any votes cast for him will not count. He was disqualified even though he collected enough signatures to run as an Independent because he voted in the Republican Primary the last election. ( http://www.wrhammons.com/dyer-congress-2010.htm ) Thornberry's attempt to get him removed from the ballot was thwarted, given Dyer collected enough signatures.
As for my chances...? It is literally THE most conservative district in all of Texas. For me to win would require some sort of voting change or irregularity. I consider myself a progressive libertarian.
Why wouldn't you support such an effort?
[Removed]
no. you do not represent my views. but best of luck.
Do you think ANY politician represents 'all' your views?
[Removed]
No money because I'm sure you would as for something else later
Actually, the plan to to reject any and all campaign contributions...
But I DO 'need' $750 just to get on the ballot.
Ok the respect meter climbed a bit. No offense but do you have a job?
Besides being an active volunteer, I grow grapes and make wine.
IF I can get on the ballot, the goal is to run a "direct action campaign". Any and all donations will go directly back to the area in which they were collected, to directly affect positive change. For example, any campaign donations that came from my hometown would be re-directed to the local library to buy a brick that says "Knabe for Congress".
Absolutely no money will be spent buying placards, fliers, bumper stickers, hats, t-shirts, or commercials of any kind.
The point being to make the world/my district a better place just by my running.
Other spending options might include fixing potholes, helping to fund local charities, or sending the money directly to municipal governments.
Interesting. I personally have nothing to give at the moment but I wish you the best of luck
Thanks, nonetheless.
I know Mac does not support SOPA or PIPA. Do you?
Of course not...
The only thing a voter in the 13th district needs to know is that when he started his Congressional career, Mac Thornberry was worth $40,000. He is now worth $700,000... He has literally used his office for financial gain, by utilizing insider trading information.
Jan Barlow is running against him in the Republican Primary: http://sendmetocongress.us/
The legal insider trading is pathetic. Any who do it deserve the boot
Here's his whole voting record: http://www.votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/21706/
Hows the begging coming along? Give us a moochers update!
First I am not begging. The money isn't for 'me', it is for better representation.
I've received paypal and mail in donations.
Good for you. Keep us posted on how the fundraising goes.
I'll post updates on my blog, in $100 increments.
Well, you're off to a good liberal start, expecting someone else to pay for you! :)
:(
Actually, yours is EXACTLY the sort of response I expected...
Did you by ANY chance review my blog to see if my stances are something you would support, before you made your retort?
Actually, I did go to your blog, and the only coherent stance I saw was a blurb on gay marriage. Now, I'm just guessing here, but I'm not sure that will go over well in Texas.
Other than that I didn't see where you stood on the following
Abortion
gun rights
bank bailouts
national defense
unionization
global trade
banking regulation
Before a reasonable person donates to a politician, these are normal questions they want answers to.
So, with your statement that you are a progressive liberal, I can assume you are pro-choice, anti-gun which precludes me from donating no matter how much I may agree with you on trade, unionization, banking, financial crisis, etc etc.
But I do wish you the best of luck
You did NOT review my blog, or you would have read my stance on Abortion: http://betterliberalarguments.blogspot.com/2010/09/abortion-compromise.html
Gun Rights: http://betterliberalarguments.blogspot.com/2011/06/swat-kills-marine-in-his-home.html
bank bailouts: http://betterliberalarguments.blogspot.com/2010/11/re-building-rome-overnight.html
national defense: http://betterliberalarguments.blogspot.com/2011/03/supporting-democratic-revolutions.html
unionization: http://betterliberalarguments.blogspot.com/2011/03/union-busting.html
That said, I'll concede that I didn't tackle global trade or banking regulations directly. But I'd be happy for formulate a complete thought on those matters, if you'd care to know.
But I don't think you do...
Also, I am pro-gun. :)
Actually I did review your blog, but not seeing a link to those issues I raised, I didn't bother digging through you archived entries.
After seeing your new list of links, now I have the answers I didn't originally find.
To rebut here are a few Items, and don't think I'm attacking you, I'm not, but here goes:
-to that I add, that your link on guns didn't provide a summery of your position on guns, though you did put it in the above post. A new visitor to your blog has no way of knowing without guidance.
-Also to your point that you didn't think I'd want a complete thought on the issues? Actually that's what my original post was asking for. This is what people want, they want a concise stance on issues.
-And also any aspiring politician needs to be able to take criticism and weigh it for advice and what can be discarded. Without criticism, we don't know ways where we can improve.
in other words, seek out advice among those around you, have them review your blog to see if what I say is true. weigh that advice, and improve in ways you can.
I do wish you the best of luck, but, alas your link to unborn babies are parasites entry prevents me from offering anything other than advice. But at least it's out there, and I truly hope that as many OWS candidates win as possible.
I'm still waiting for your retort...
Upon abortion, my stance isn't 'entirely' as you purport. Unborn "babies"- i.e. "Individuals", are most certainly not parasites.
Something that can not exist on it own, without a 'specific' willing and able host is scientifically speaking most certainly parasitic in function and form.
Our Constitution protects "individual rights", not group rights. A woman is an individual who has rights. Something that requires HER willingness to provide for ALL of its life functions is not 'equal' to her, and can not supersede her rights. HOWEVER, at the point of external viability, this relationship changes...
As an individual no longer absolutely dependent on ONE specific host, you are no longer parasitic in function, and become capable of exercising rights.
Our entire system is set up to deliver more rights, as you age, so there must be some point at which we had no right, because we weren't capable of exercising them.
We don't let 5 year olds drive, nor do we let 10 year olds vote, and we don't let 17 year olds drink.
debndan never said that unborn babies were parasites.
Neither did I. "Unborn babies" are individuals, not parasites.
If you need ONE specific host to perform ALL of your life functions, then you are parasitic in form.
Why are you even bringing this up if nobody said otherwise.
I think it was about misinterpreting my stance...
OK. Sorry. I was confused.
No problem.
That is a BLOG...NOT my 'campaign' website. I don't have a campaign yet. I need $750 to file first.
Someone who has no problem begging for 750 dollars is not a person I take seriously enough to care about your positions. Do you see how absolutely ridiculous you look?
First, I am not 'begging'. Second, EVERY politician does this.
That you would ignore a potential candidate's platform, and then chastise them for requesting funding provides volumes into your 'thinking', or lack thereof.
I don't think a potential politician asking for financial support from like-minded thinkers is ridiculous.
But I DO think you are an ignorant dick.
You're hilarious! You talk about giving back all contributions yet you don't see the irony in asking for the 750! Hell, you could collect enough aluminum cans to scrape up 750. At least then you wouldn't look like a complete fool but I don't think looking like a fool bothers you that much. :)
I don't believe I need to repeat myself.
I don't exist to make money. I make enough money to pay the bills, and no more. I don't have a savings and I don't take out loans.
I simply don't have an 'extra $750' laying around to make a run.
Hahahahahahaha.
What's so funny?
Beggars.
You think I'm a beggar?
I know you are.
Your lack of insight is only bested by your absence of wit...
How much contrbutions have you mooched so far?
None. I started this post yesterday...
That said, I plan to meet with a few County Chairs this week, so we'll see how much support is out there for a Liberal run.
This specific district is +28 R, meaning that R's outnumber D's 3-1.
I posted this here, hoping the liberal numbers were higher.
I think he's gotten only smiles and unicorn dreams so far, maybe a gum wrapper
So far the only thing I have received is the promise of support.

I am an active volunteer. That means I 'work' for free. :)
