Warm greetings to all who support the movement. Though I'm a newly registered member, I have followed the movement with great interest and enthusiasm from it's beginning and, as a way of introducing myself, would like to offer some observations regarding tactics and strategy if I may:
Demands - or the lack of them is brilliant! Seriously! And here's why I believe that. We all have one thing in common: a list of grievances regarding how capitalism functions, how our representative democracy works, why the American Dream is a bygone notion for so many and needs restoration. Those grievances have been well-established through all media (ok, maybe not Fox News so much) and it's simply a matter of getting the blissfully ignorant, the deniers and haters to acknowledge those grievances. The minusha can come afterward. The November 17th day of action went a very long way toward accomplishing that difficult task of recognition.
I think that many, if not indeed most Occupiers recognize that the politicans and power brokers are the ones who must craft the means by which change will occur. We are the architects and they are the construction crew. We will elect representatives in government who are sympathetic to our grievances and they will craft and will legislate the changes necessary for redress of our grievances.
I recognize that Occupy's horizontal organizational schematic can seem unwieldy and in the "heat of battle" if you will, tensions can rise even between those who actively support change for a just and fair America. Please be patient with those who lose their focus a little and do try to keep your eye on the big picture.
We have solidarity and support of many clergy and labor unions. Politicians, being politicans, are and will continue to get on board in greater numbers. Anyone who watched news media coverage during yesterday's marches knows that support is swelling and that a sea-change is at hand. Those seeking election to politcal office will recognize that fact and develop their campaign platforms accordingly.
I realize that for most readers my points are rather salient, however I feel that they needed to be posted here for the benefit of those who may get caught up in the garbage by some posters who seem bent on creating argument, spewing vitriol and attempt disruption of the esprit de corp many of us are experiencing.
Be strong, be well and may God bless us and our just cause.
Yours in solidarity,
ThunderclapNewman
