Last year NJ Legal Services published a report about the alarming number of working poor people in New Jersey. This social problem is correlated with the growing levels of unemployment in our state, which is much more then it was in 2009. Moreover, dismal job opportunities are a factor which has lead to home foreclosures in New Jersey. Furthermore, with homelessness comes hunger.
Bloomberg Businessweek journalist Beth DeFalco wrote, on April twentieth 2010, how thirty-four people in Chris Christie’s administration were being a given a six figure salary, including the Governor himself. Christie makes $175,000 from tax dollar, Lieutenant Governor, Kim Guadagno, is given a salary of $ 141,000 and the state administration’s payroll comes to a total of $ 8.9 million for 117 people. This unjust management of public funding is taking place, despite the seriousness of poverty in the state. I pray more citizens of New Jersey speak out against Chris Chistie’s hypocritical attacks on the state’s marginalized groups and service workers, such as teachers, social service workers policemen and fire fighters.
