Forum Post: An agenda for the future - Discuss

I am not in a position to make demands on behalf of #OWS. Indeed from following the movement closely the very idea of communal demands seems at odds with its individualistic nature. But somewhere, sometime, some cohesion will be required, because if people start to listen to the 99% we'd better have something to say. In light of that I propose the following agenda:

1. Tax fairly. Respect the wealthy and their role as wealth and job creators but also accept that they can afford to pay a little more. Banish tax havens and creative accounting.

2. Stop fighting other people's wars. The military should intervene when we are threatened and do as much as is required to keep us safe. No more.

3. End demagoguery. Stop spreading scare stories then using them to take away our liberty. We are adults - we can take our own risks.

4. Allow unreserved freedom of speech. Let those with unpalatable views be seen for what they are. Allow comedians to make jokes. Let those of sound judgement be heard.

5. Put people before business. It is not okay for companies to choose profits at the cost of people's jobs. It is not okay to move everything to China and India. Productive people share in prosperity and don't need to protest.
