Forum Post: America is okay...

This content is user submitted and not an official statement

The economy is recovering and everybody has a fair shot at the American Dream.

Those who say otherwise are lazy and just want to take our "stuff" and get free "stuff" from the government.

Everybody should just get back to work (if they have a job or business) and then go buy shit.

If one's job or business doesn't pay them enough money to buy shit, then they should just go to a bank; banks are approving loans and giving money to people.

From Citigroup's 2005 "plutonomy Report":

Perhaps one reason that societies allow plutonomy, is because enough of the electorate believe they have a chance of becoming a Pluto-participant. Why kill it off, if you can join it? In a sense this is the embodiment of the “American dream”. But if voters feel they cannot participate, they are more likely to divide up the wealth pie, rather than aspire to being truly rich. Could the plutonomies die because the dream is dead, because enough of society doesnot believe they can participate? The answer is of course yes. But we suspect this is athreat more clearly felt during recessions, and periods of falling wealth, than when average citizens feel that they are better off. There are signs around the world that society is unhappy with plutonomy - judging by how tight electoral races are. But as yet, there seems little political fight being born out on this battleground. Our overall conclusion is that a backlash against plutonomy is probable at some point. However, that point is not now. So long as economies continue to grow, and enough of the electorates feel that they are benefiting and getting rich in absolute terms, even if they are less well off in relative terms, there is little threat to Plutonomy in the U.S., UK,etc.

...they sure hope it goes this way. and maybe it will. until it doesn't.

How could you not see this was sarcasm. You know the news is really saying there is more jobs. Yet most of my friends can not find jobs. It looks as if it gets worse. The news says it is getting better. =(

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

stop watching the news and get involved in your local politics

[-] 1 points by 4TheHumanSocietyProject (504) 12 years ago

lol I do not watch the news. It just popped up in my yahoo email account. Please do not tell me what to do. Please stop judging me. Etc.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

Nobody is judging you and please do not tell ME what to do.

[-] 1 points by 4TheHumanSocietyProject (504) 12 years ago

Ohh man. I said please which represents me asking.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

Lol. You're correct. Thank you for the lesson in manners, something i'm known to lack in. A more dignified response from me would've been:

"Consider not watching the news and getting involved in local politics"

[-] 2 points by 4TheHumanSocietyProject (504) 12 years ago

Yea. Our language sucks. That is the correct way I think shit should be said.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

indeed

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

the absurdity of the post should've clued you into the sarcasm

"Oh, you mean Goldman Sachs and the rest of them who took a break from reading Friedman in 08 and ran to the government to reciev billions in taxpayer bailouts free of charge..?"

I'm cool with the deal Goldman got as long as every other taxpayer gets access to the same deal.

"Eh, no ,actually many banks have taken our money."

First, the banks approved loans and gave money to people who didn't have enough money to buy shit. Then the banks took our money.

[-] 1 points by struggleforfreedom80 (6584) 12 years ago

I suspected irony, but remember - many people on the right actually mean this.

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

If you call your bank they can fix the mistake. It is usually a very simple fix. I have not lost one penny in mine. Very pleased with the service.

[-] 1 points by TrollDestroyer2000 (29) 12 years ago

You must be reading the Fox news Propaganda. I am a small business owner and I can tell you sales are no different now than they were in 09. When the economy is better I wont have to work a job and run a business. I think you are confused as to what this movement is about. If I thought OWS was a bunch of hippies looking for free stuff I of all people would not be here. The fact still remains lobbying groups and organizations own and control the political infrastructure in our nation. If you dont believe that then you need your head examined plain and simple.

[-] 1 points by TrollDestroyer2000 (29) 12 years ago

Honestly I read the first two lines and got to the point were it said take our stuff and that was it I was ready to respond. I should have read the whole thing. You sounded like one of them haters at first haha funny.

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

One would wonder why the ratings are so high on the republican debates. And the ratings are equally high on all the news networks, not just Fox. People want to elect their guy and they want huge amounts of money, corporate money, to get he or she elected. 236 years and it still works. You cant debate the huge interest in the debates. Millions more interested in the debates than OWS,,, by a long shot. Things will get better in 2013 after a republican is elected.

[-] 2 points by TrollDestroyer2000 (29) 12 years ago

I understand how it works and Im not happy. The big businesses like to pass draconian laws and regulations for the private sector. One would think they would want less regulation but this couldnt be farther from the truth. When you own a big corporation regulation is good for you because it makes it harder for the little guys like me to stay afloat. When small businesses fail it opens the door for companies like walmart and such to move in and fill in the gaps with low wag labor and sweatshop goods. This crap has to stop. It has not been like this for more than 60 years or so.

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

Government reports, the SBA, states that small business drives this economy, not walmart and the such.

[-] 1 points by turkey (13) 12 years ago

The economy is recovering only for the 1%. and only they have a fair shot at the American Dream.

Then lets be lazy and take there "stuff". Everybody that can find work , make some money-- and then go buy some shit.

If one's job or business doesn't pay them enough money to buy shit, then they should go to a bank; banks are approving loans and giving money to people.-- then don;t pay them back..

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

"then don;t pay them back.."

if banks loan money to people who don't have enough money to buy shit, then it's hard to take seriously any compassion for banks when they don't get their money back.

[-] 1 points by 4TheHumanSocietyProject (504) 12 years ago

I seen that. I was like this sounds like someone is running for re election.

"The economy is recovering and everybody has a fair shot at the American Dream."

That's pure naivety. I'm assuming from this line that you don't ever purchase gas and drive and maintain a vehicle so you can't drive around your town and see the $3.80+ per gal price. You don't have to buy your own groceries so don't notice the steady price climb of everything.

I'm assuming you still don't know Obama is the Tyrant in Chief that is doing his level best to drive the economy into the crapper on a daily basis.

The American Dream is not possible now and may never be for future Generations if we don't vote out this POS POTUS and his corrupt Regime. Obamacare will make America a very different, fucked up place.

America is far from "okay". In fact the America our parents left us has already turned from the land of opportunity into a nation in despair. European Socialism is where we are headed thanks to RINO's and Dumocraps,Leftists,Progressives and stupid people voting for Govt. welfare.

By the way,you do know that the real unemployment rate is closer to 11.4%.

Yeah I get it,just being sarcastic. That's cool,it worked.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

the absurdity of the post should've clued you into the sarcasm

[-] 0 points by headlesscross (67) 12 years ago

Yeah, but there's a lot of sincere and unbelievably absurd shit on this forum all the time.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

such as blaming one politician and one political party for the performance of the world's largest economy

[-] 0 points by headlesscross (67) 12 years ago

I have admitted there is plenty of blame to spread around but the current Regime is not doing anything to remedy situation and is only exasperating it.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

they're all exasperating it equally. they all have a vested interest in the corrupt status quo. all of them.

[-] 0 points by capella (199) 12 years ago

The economy is NOT recovering.

[-] 1 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

It is not recovering because it is a liberal economy. This is why the huge interest in the republican debates, even when the debates are carried on liberal news networks. People are ready for a huge change.

[-] 0 points by capella (199) 12 years ago

under this administration,.................it's the liberal desercration of the economy.

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

For 50 years there has been a failed liberal agenda. The poor keep getting poorer even after all the poor keep voting for rich liberal democrats that keep getting richer. You get what you vote for. You like poor, vote democrat. You like better, vote republican, the way I vote and have been rewarded.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

no, no. it is. it really is.

[-] 0 points by capella (199) 12 years ago

sure it is, pass the popcorn.

[-] 0 points by smartcapitalist (143) 12 years ago

yeah, you got it almost right.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

...and its absurdity is lost on a dunce such as yourself

[-] -1 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

America will do just fine after the elections and Obama goes back to his homeland and takes his $25,000 sun dress wife with him.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

and the last Republican administration's $2 trillion Iraq war.

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

The one obama is taking credit for?

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

the one the Obama admin is getting us out of

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

You mean the one he claimed he would end on day one but started two new ones? Just like he was going to close GITMO on day one? Just like doing away with the Patriot Act on day one? Just like the most transparent government in history on day one? Just like no lobbiest allowed on day one? You mean those day ones?

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

hey, for me it's not about one person or party. you're the one who brought Michelle's $25,000 sun dress into it.

it's pretty hard to take you seriously.

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

I dont want you to take me seriously. I dont spend all my waking hours worrying about some rich guy or someone with more money than me. You brought up the Iraq war and all the money being spent on it. You (others) claim it is the cost of war that hurts us. The war is over. Let's see how fast they transfer the money that was being spent on those things you claimed were not getting the money. The debt should be going down at the rate equal to what you claim it was going up due to the war,,,, that is not,,, anymore. Wait it out.

[-] 1 points by kingscrossection (1203) 12 years ago

Are you reffering to business cycles?

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

"I dont spend all my waking hours worrying about some rich guy or someone with more money than me."

If they're subverting your democracy with that money, then you should.

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

If they are, they have been doing it over 4,000 years. Looking out my office window,, as I'm getting other things done too, I see hundreds of cars going by. More cars each year. Nicer looking cars each year. If there is a subverting,,,, I have been all for it the last 236 years.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

so democracy is not what's important to you, it's nice cars. and as long as they get nicer as time goes by, you're cool with everything.

[-] 1 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

Those are the rewards. A nice house. Nice boat. Nice wine. HARD WORK gets you those. Even a dumb bastard can make a lot of money with hard work. Democracy allows anyone the OPPORTUNITY to do that. Not a government MAN.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

"Democracy allows anyone the OPPORTUNITY to do that"

so you're for democracy but not against the subversion of it as long as the cars get nicer and nicer

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

you brought up Michelle Obama's $25,000 sun dress

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

just one,,, sun dress @ $25,000. Just ONE that I mentioned. Make you wonder about the OWS tent cities.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

one that I probably didn't pay for and probably didn't get anyone killed.

[-] -1 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

I thought obama just took credit for KILLING Kadafi? You think maybe obama wanted to get re-elected so he could buy another $25,000 sun dress? Just maybe? I think somebody DID get killed and you dont know it.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

ah yes, Kadafi and the $25,000 sun dress. i think you're a little crazy.

good luck

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

So you seem to like $25,000 sun dresses on a Presidents most transparent salary in American History.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

at the moment, i'm more concerned with the taxpayer providing short-term low interest rate loans in the hundreds of billions of dollars to bankers so they can build risky loan portfolios in order to collect bonuses. call me crazy, but somehow i see that as a larger threat to capitalism and democracy than a $25,000 sun dress that i probably did not pay for.

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion1 (109) 12 years ago

OK, your crazy. Get some sleep. This has been going on long before you, your parents or grand parents or great grand parents have lived. I bet the were happy with America and for some reason your entire day is to worry about some rich guy. You fight the boogy man until you have a heart attack and everyone will still have generations of children with more to think about than some rich banker.

[-] 1 points by opensociety4us (914) from Norwalk, CT 12 years ago

i'm not the one talking about Michelle's $25,000 sun dress (which probably hasn't gotten anyone killed)
