Forum Post: America has forgotten ~ A message of encouragement

Society has forgotten the true meaning of protest. It isn't 3 days of signs, people 'feeling' like they have been heard. To protest means to keep going until change is achieved. Don't let their short attention span deter you from your efforts. You who are marching for all us who are too close to the line of bare survival to leave our jobs and families, are the voice for those who have been voiceless. You are a spark of hope in what seems like a continual slide down into endless suffering for masses that have been so disenchanted by the 1% puppets that direct our country. We have been deceived, robbed, taxed, whatever name you put to it, we have been pushed to a point of breaking. Help to remind us of our resiliance and ability to overcome oppression in all of its forms. Humanity has shown time and time again that it will tolerate large scale injustice for only so long before it erupts and forces change. In the past it was through methods of violence that these changes took place, a laundry list of wars that killed off vast numbers on all sides. We are again in dramatic times of change and we have made the choice to make changes happen through peaceful methods. Peaceful does not mean docile! This is a chance to continue a wave of change felt the world over.
For those of us not physically standing with you, thank you. Know we are listening and watching and wanting something to believe in.

The entire Occupy movement should come down to DC and camp in Anacostia Park, site of the original Bonus March Encampment in 1932. Do what the Bonus Marchers did. Set up a clean, formal encampment. I'm sure there are enough sponsors who will pay for potties and showers.

Then, every day, all those at the encampment should get up at 6:30 a.m. and march down Maryland Avenue to the Capitol and spend the day visiting their Senators and Representatives. Every day until they get something done, like a nationwide Section 8 subsidy program so that everyone pays 1/3 of their monthly income for housing.

Let's get organized, Fellow Workers!

In the constitution it says for a redress of grievances.

Look up redress.

How long does one have to peaceably assemble to achieve a redress?

your point being....? How long did it take Gandhi? MLK?

That the redress part is what seems to be ignored by the powers that be, yet the constitution demands it.

sorry, still not clear on your intention. the constitution does not demand that we with grievances be given anything more than the right to petition. That's the problem, ain't it? We have a right, and it's being acknowledged to some extent, but the the powers are not affording us redress; so we have to keep on petitioning. that's why I'm suggesting that The entire Occupy movement should come down to DC and camp in Anacostia Park, site of the original Bonus March Encampment in 1932. My intention is to discover what it takes to actually get a redress. How do we force a redress? A court order perhaps?

Too many millions have marched to no avail.

It's why I support the Occupy movement.

oh, ok. One form of petitioning for redress is through the courts. Another, of course, is through the ballot box. Sadly, the redress for which we are petitioning will not come through the courts, since they have been bought and paid for by the 1%, and is unlikely to come through the ballot box either, for the same reason. Therefore, our only option is to take our case to our neighbors and try to get a mass movement together to challenge the powers that be, which is why I am suggesting that

I'm thinking that might be a good plan.

It's why I think semi permanent camps will work better that another million man march.
