Forum Post: All of this Bullshit has a cause, even economic inequality started somewhere...

It's called Reaganomics, better known more deceptively as "Trickle Down" economics. This is the root of all our problems, income inequality, the Glass-Steegall removal, weak unions, and turning the Democrats into a Right of center party and I believe it is time for OWS to focuse on removing this from our economic policies. Obama has spoken out against it but I say we put the pressure on and force him to turn his words to actions. Come on y'all, it's time for action, eve if it is just one (but very important )issue, and we can prevent Reagan's legacy from destroying our great nation! Occupy Reaganomics!

Yeah, well Jfk did try to warn us. Read this closely "For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.

Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed.

No President should fear public scrutinity of his program. For from that scrutiny comes understanding; and from that understanding comes support or opposition. And both are necessary. I am not asking your newspapers to support the Administration, but I am asking your help in the tremendous task of informing and alerting the American people. For I have complete confidence in the response and dedication of our citizens whenever they are fully informed.

I not only could not stifle controversy among your readers-- I welcome it. This Administration intends to be candid about its errors; for as a wise man once said: "An error does not become a mistake until you refuse to correct it." We intend to accept full responsibility for our errors; and we expect you to point them out when we miss them."-Jfk

Exactly, where were the protests about Reaganomics when it was being passed? When it's effects were being felt? Americans must replace this toxic apathy we've come to embrace with decisive action and show the corporate oligarchs they rule no longer.

Yeah man!!! I think we have them afraid, so that's a good start :-)

Agreed, our time is now.

He also brings up the military-industrial complex in that speech saying "It can be felt in every home in America"

[-] 2 points by Spade2 (478) 12 years ago

One of the nastiest symptoms and it was also warned by Eisenhower, a REPUBLICAN, just go's to show you how much this has corrupted our government.

You're right on about unions. America was a terrible place before the labor movement. Terrible working conditions, inhumane hours, no weekends, no pensions, no healthcare, and dirty slums.

People fought hard, some even died, to get to the point where there was a middle class to speak of, and corporations benefited with people who made enough money to buy their products.

Now due to a mix of corporate propaganda and laziness, we have to do it all over again. weeee!

I think the fight will be easier this go around. At least I hope so.

There were outspoken opponents to Trickle down at the time and again they told it like it was - trickle down will not work to stimulate the economy as it gives no incentive to do so. It does however provide an unearned windfall for the greedy corrupt. This I felt probably put the truth into trickle down as the bladders of the excited corrupt greedy bastards let loose and they wet themselves. They liked that feeling so much they got Bush and company to repeat the gift.

Bush and even Obama and Clinton are just extensions of Reagan's policies just as Eisenhower and even Nixon were extensions of FDR's policies.

Right now we have a revisit to a historical fact that helped to get this country founded in the 1st place.

The saying used to go " No taxation with out representation"

The people find themselves back in that position to day as for the most part government has stopped representing for the people.

Thank God for the Birth of OWS and "ALL" of the movements against greed corruption and white collar crime.

Time to reclaim proper representation.

The oligarchs' days are numbered, lets try to have this done by the end of the decade.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

I think we can have better progress then that if we go about it correctly.

Start with removing corporate personhood. Corporations are not people, they are creations of individuals and as such are a possession and should be treated as such.

Get money out of politics - campaign finance reform

OSTA - one subject at a time legislation to remove riders - bad legislation should not be allowed to bypass the system by riding on the back of good or needed legislation.

Remove conflict of interest from government and earmarking.

Hold the elected to the oath of office to support and defend the constitution of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA = Government Of The People By The People For The People. Kick them out of office like in Wis-sconny if they fail to do so. Hell they could even face charges of treason.

These things would give us a good start on creating a Healthy and Prosperous society for ALL.

[-] 1 points by Spade2 (478) 12 years ago

Yes, these symptoms must be removed and the government held responsible. Slowly, corporate defeat by corporate defeat, we will regain our country.

Public education towards awareness and then participation will make this happen.

Kimmel told a joke at the White House Press Dinner.

Kidding Michelle - I see where American's really do need to start getting in shape. I mean it used to be when you saw or heard about a protest it was a March, now a-days though it seems they Occupy.

Funny right in the middle of the News Blackout crowd.

Kimmel said some pretty disparaging things about OWS. He's one of the "they're nothing but a bunch of dirty hippies" crowd.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Still I thought it was a funny bomb to drop in the middle of the news blackout crowd as the event was covered and the joke made it on to MSM prime time news coverage.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

Hey, it's free publicity for OWS. Keep the jokes coming.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

My thought exactly. Oh and please piss us off with nasty characterizing. As I don't think that is going to make us back down.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

One thing that will feel sweet is when OWS starts getting a positive spin in the media (assuming, of course) and all the naysayers start backtracking on what they originally said.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Did you see my post on Smile for the camera and say cheese? I am hoping for some really good coverage and then for a lot of people to share as well. There is going to be stuff going on tomorrow that should get out to the public.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

(Reply to below) Didn't you post those in another thread a day or two before? I did check out a number of those links and bookmarked 'mediaforthe99%' to check out later. It does look promising. Keep up the good work.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Thanks I wanted to get the word out on this site as well as other social media spots. So I sent copies to quite a few people.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 12 years ago

No, I haven't. I'll go check it out now.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

It looks to be a great collaborative effort.

[-] 1 points by the13thfloor (27) 12 years ago

I did read about this before. Reaganomics = Bullshit...

[-] 1 points by Spade2 (478) 12 years ago

How this got passed so long ago is such a damn mystery, but we know it's the problem and once it's dead, we must stay vigilant so something like this is never seen again in a future America.
