After a weekend of secret meetings, Congress drafts final version of NDAA

“The Feinstein Amendment 1031(e) is dangerously misleading,” writes John Wood of Change.org, http://www.change.org/petitions/stop-ndaa-section-1031-citizen-imprisonment-law-today ...which is running a petition to oppose the signing of the bill. “Don’t be fooled: In the text of 1031(e), “Nothing in this section shall be construed…”, the only word that matters is “construed” because the Supreme Court are the only ones with the power to construe the law. The Feinstein Amendment 1031(e) permits citizens to be imprisoned without evidence or a trial forever, if the Supreme Court does not EXPLICITLY repeal 1031.”
The Obama administration never had a problem with Section 1031 of the bill and indeed acted to ensure it applied to American citizens. Doubts over whether or not Obama would veto the bill only arose out of issues with Section 1032, which pertains to the military being required to take custody of individuals.
“Confusingly, Obama threatened a veto for 1032, but NOT 1031. 1032 is UNRELATED to imprisoning citizens without a trial. Obama has never suggested using a veto to stop Section 1031 citizen imprisonment,” writes Wood.
The Indefinite Detention Bill DOES Apply to American Citizens on U.S. Soil

The bill is confusing. As Wired noted on December 1st:
It’s confusing, because two different sections of the bill seem to contradict each other, but in the judgment of the University of Texas’ Robert Chesney — a nonpartisan authority on military detention — “U.S. citizens are included in the grant of detention authority.” http://www.lawfareblog.com/2011/12/does-the-ndaa-authorize-detention-of-us-citizens/

Admiral and Judge Advocate General Says Indefinite Military Detention Of U.S. Citizens Is A Win For Terrorists: “The Enemy Is Just Laughing Over This, Because They Will Have Gotten Another Victory”
The U.S. Hands the Terrorists a Big Win
-December 13, 2011-
Top counter-terrorism officials have said for years that indefinite detention increases terrorism. http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2011/03/top-counter-terrorism-experts-indefinite-detention-will-increase-terrorism.html
As Huffington Post notes... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/12/indefinite-military-detention-former-admiral_n_1144121.html ...today, the indefinite detention bill passed by the Senate last week hands the terrorists a big win:
A measure that Congress will likely pass this week allowing indefinite detentions of Americans by the U.S. military will mark a significant loss in the war on terrorism, says a retired admiral who ran the Navy legal system.
This was the excuse they needed to brand anyone that goes against the "status quo" as terrorists. I am not fearful as I could see through the scheme. Hitler burned the Reichstag, to start the activity that fueled his support. 9/11 was used as the "excuse" to incrementally implement more "excuses" The Nazis capitalized on the fear generated by this. Just as the administration capitalized on the fear of terrorist attacks, and is using this to expand the global elite agenda for total control.
Because history continues to be eroded or spun in our education systems, less and less of the pupils are equipped with the knowledge to recognize the signifigance of this historical event. The end will be the same, a great war, and to the rest of the world we (the USA as a country) is viewed in the same perspective as the Nazi party. The US government just sugar coated it better. Wake up

My sense was always that we are (or at least WERE) a nation of ideals to which we aspire. I guess that is only true up to the point where we become so fearful that our values suffer. The purpose of terrorism is to instill a sense of terror. We have become so fearful that terroists will strike here again that we will do anything to prevent it - suspend the Constitution, turn our backs on The Geneva Conventions, lose our souls, you name it. Is there no level to which we will not stoop?
anyone feel safer yet?
the terrorists won.
the Joker pointed out in The Dark Knight, these principles and rules the govt has claimed to follow are just a big joke. Dropped at the first signs of trouble. That whole movie reminds me of what is happening today.
It ain't about the terrorists anymore. They are simply an excuse.
It was never about any terrorists, it was always an excuse...
With the passage of S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act they will be swinging all the power that the people have relinquished to their government (to keep them safe) around ...back on to the people.
They swung the patriot act around on to the people too.
I have heard this called 'mission-creep'
Yup, everything being done under the guise of "fighting terrorism and keeping the country safe."
Way to go--our constitution is now being used as toilet paper in Congress. So much for WE THE People.
Very true.
