Forum Post: Address the Root Cause - We need Campaign Finance Reform as THE goal of the Protests!!!!!

I can see from other posts that more and more people are starting to catch on to the root of the problem. Right now our politicians, both on the Right and Left, are bought and paid for by the corporations and other special interests. Our political system has been high-jacked by the legalized bribery that is currently allowed. We need to get the money out of our politics!! The main goal of these protests needs to be real, iron-clad, loop-hole free CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM!!! Without it the chance of achieving meaningful reform of the other issues is almost zero. I see a lot of people upset about the myriad problems our country is facing, but I'm not sure they are seeing the causal relationship between the influence of corporate money and the problems their facing.
In almost every case you can trace the problem back to our compromised political system which has allowed the rich and powerful to dictate policy to slant the rules/regulations in order to enrich themselves. We need to get the money out if we ever want our "representatives" to ever really represent the will and best interests of the American people again. Spread the word - the main goal of the protests should be CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM. If we can achieve it, then the other reforms that real Americans want have a chance of happening.

Absolutely. Cleaning up the government is job one. Nothing works until we occupy congress. You can see the tea party congressman getting nervous these days. He sings a new tune.

Occupy Congress.

I agree with the majority of what you are saying, yet the main goal would need to go beyond just campaign finance reform. It is not just campaign money which buys our government officials. We need to see real and serious reform to political lobbying. This is a great article http://www.thedaonline.com/opinion/column-it-s-time-to-permanently-reform-political-lobbying-1.2651943 on the "cancer that is political lobbyist".

We have a system of bought and paid for law. It might begin in a campaign, but it reaches far past the favors bought with campaign donations.

I'm looking for an amendment overturning Citizens United and public only financing of elections. Both the right and the left and everyone in between can get on board for this one, which is good; cause we're gonna need em to get it done.

Had a post saying this just the other day (shameless plug: http://occupywallst.org/forum/ows-primary-issue-campaign-finance-reform/#comment-138130); it seems to have fallen into obscurity, but yours deserves a bump for great justice! This is the first issue we have to tackle as a collective whole before we attempt to get anything else done.
