Our first goal is to pass 50 resolutions on campuses by the end of this fall. We see this as a powerful step to compliment the nearly 500 local resolutions that have passed nationwide.</p> <p>Please do three things to help us meet this goal:</p> <ol> <li><p><a rel="nofollow" href="http://qz.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=0GXPN13Y%2BZpQwoJdNbzn2evsRrBd/HOv">Take a look at the Students United For Democracy website.</a></p> </li> <li><p><a rel="nofollow" href="http://qz.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=x3Rs9q1Hzb9tt70Ui6ROJOvsRrBd/HOv">If you are a student, sign up to be part of this new movement</a></p> </li> <li><p><strong><em>Pass this email along to young people you know.</em></strong></p> </li> </ol> <p>We all know about — and some of us were part of — the student movement that rocked the nation in the 1960s, from the war in Vietnam to civil rights. You may be an aspiring student activist today.</p> <p>Leadership from the young has inspired great change and been essential to movements for social and environmental justice throughout history.</p> <p>In recent history, here are some youth-led protests that have created deep societal change:</p> <ul> <li><p>In the 1960s, in the United States and globally, students created change for civil rights, ended the Vietnam War, worked for equality for women and created less rigid social norms.</p> </li> <li><p>Students called for democracy in Tienanmen Square, China, in 1989; in Tehran, Iran, in 1999; and in Egypt and throughout the Arab world in 2011.</p> </li> <li><p>In Chile and Britain in 2010 and 2011, mass student protests demonstrated against cuts to higher education.</p> </li> <li><p>In the United States in 2011 and 2012, the Occupy Movement was led by young activists and has led to shifting dialogue and awareness of the 1%.</p> </li> <li><p>Globally, student voices are calling for action to curb climate change.</p> </li> <li><p>In the United States today, demand for a constitutional amendment — to take the power out of the hands of the 1% and ensure that we live in a nation where everyone’s voice is heard — is igniting on campuses from coast to coast.</p> </li> </ul> <p>Already, many campuses have passed resolutions calling for a constitutional amendment, and students have played an important role in moving forward state and local resolutions and ballot initiatives.
