I'm not Liann. If they want to show up, march, hold signs that'd be great.

They just shouldn't start waving money around.

I applaud them for donating 10 million dollars to the ACLU a few years ago.

We're just going to have to be louder and more active.

[-] 2 points by Eli11 (10) 13 years ago

No one is being co-opted and I have not seen any video where move on claims to lead or speak for OWS. If you want to see how OWS makes decisions, go here: http://nycga.cc/ or attend a general assembly in Zuccotti Amd get on stack if you have an idea or concern. This movement is leaderless but welcomes anyone to support and join. It is not about petitions to EXCLUDE anyone's voices! I am very suspicious that whoever keeps expressing this "concern" that move on is cooptimg OWS may have a more nefarious intention themselves- possibly an intention to divide supporters and pit people against one another. It won't work, by the way, so don't bother if that is the goal. Come to GA if your interest and concern are so sincere! Thanks.

[-] 2 points by entrepreneur99 (114) from Los Angeles, CA 13 years ago

The reason people are concerned is that the media is painting us as an arm of the democratic party. If the media succeeds in doing this we will just be another pawn in the left versus right stupidity that dominates politics. We need MoveOn to back down a bit so that we can remain clearly party-neutral. This is the only way to continue to legitimately claim that we represent the 99%.

[-] 2 points by humboldt11 (11) 13 years ago

Again, the paragraph on the right is unprofessional and emotional. Rewrite it. Fix your grammar.

[-] 1 points by wweddingMadeintheUSA (135) 13 years ago

[-] 1 points by truthhurts (33) 13 years ago

Obama can't jump in and put a lid on this too directly so he's doing it via his MoveOn goons and suits. They don't really want to give up being rich, just saying it is all they want.

[-] 1 points by gtyper (477) from San Antonio, TX 13 years ago

Wait -- so you want us to sign a petition on signon.org that is part of moveon.org?

Sounds like a way to get their mailers.

[-] 1 points by OnePeople (103) 13 years ago

UMM SIGNON.ORG IS AN AFFILIATE WITH MOVEON.ORG, and sends emails to anyone who signs the petition.

Note(ON WEBSITE): MoveOn.org Civic Action sponsors SignOn.org. By signing, you agree to receive email messages from MoveOn.org Civic Action and MoveOn.org Political Action. (You may unsubscribe at any time.)

[-] 1 points by Idaltu (662) 13 years ago

from the about at signon...interesting connection.

About SignOn.org SignOn is a service provided by MoveOn.org Civic Action to allow anyone to set up their own online petition, share it with friends, and stay in touch with the signers of their petition using email.

MoveOn.org Civic Action sponsors SignOn, but we do not endorse the contents of any petition on this site. To find out about MoveOn's campaigns, visit www.moveon.org.

About MoveOn™ and MoveOn.org Civic Action MoveOn.org Civic Action is a service, a way for busy citizens to find their political voice in a system dominated by big money and big media. We fight for issues our members care about, like health care, the climate crisis, and ending the war in Iraq, and we help elect candidates, like Barack Obama, who reflect our values.

MoveOn brings real Americans back into the political process. With over 5 million members across America, we have the strength—together—to stand up to Washington and its corporate lobbyists in order to achieve real progressive change for real people. We are democracy in action.

[-] 1 points by Shule (2638) 13 years ago

I think you might be able to take MoveOn.org to court over this with a civil suit. I'm not a lawyer, but I think do so.

[-] 1 points by EndTheFedNow (692) 13 years ago

WTF, JohnB? I know that MoveOn is doing this but this petition seems to be one of theirs and everyone who signs gets data mined and subject to their non-stop spam! From the site:

Note: MoveOn.org Civic Action sponsors SignOn.org. By signing, you agree to receive email messages from MoveOn.org Civic Action and MoveOn.org Political Action. (You may unsubscribe at any time.)

[-] 1 points by TLydon007 (1278) 13 years ago

While you're all signing petitions you know nothing about, can you all join this Facebook group to Abolish Women's Suffrage??

I mean.. You don't want women to suffer, right??

Cya.

[-] 1 points by bestamor1 (1) from Becker, MN 13 years ago

John B you just registered today like myself. Where were you yesterday? which protest? I am here to learn. I am not signing any petition.

[-] 1 points by JohnB (138) 13 years ago

I would never ask anyone to sign a petition they don't agree with or don't understand. I have not had internet access since I've been here. I finally have the time and a laptop, so I'm attempting to make good use of my time.

[-] 1 points by Dost (315) 13 years ago

You are way off base on this. You can't stop free speech. There are probably a lot of people in the Occupy Movement who voted for Obama and will again. You want to ban Moveon from talking to people. People have the right to talk to whom they wish. You or anyone else does not own the Occupy movement. On whose authority are you passing this petition? Who do YOU represent? To be clear, I did not vote for Obama and don't particularly like or agree with Moveon (too liberal for me) but to say, "Moveon, out of my movement!" This is absolutely ridiculous and childish.

[-] 1 points by JohnB (138) 13 years ago

I am not asking them to leave, I am asking them to stop speaking to the press and claim they represent our movement in total. They are claiming to speak for all of us - that is co-opting at it's worst. If they can do that, we can ask them to stop. Andif they don't stop, we can freely choose to call them out, make everyone else aware of what they are doing, and act with our conscience and our wallet, by boycotting their co-opting attempts. There is nothing childish about it. It's called equal exercise of free speech

[-] 1 points by Dost (315) 13 years ago

Oh, sorry, i misunderstood. I think it goes to the point, if I may say so, of not have a structure and organization. Can you tell me what you stand for, simple and to the point? If not, then you might have 5000 people saying different things. When there is a vacuum of leadership, others tend to step in and up. Also, you risk losing valuable veterans of organizing. I would like to see some structure and leadership that is representative of the core values and principles of the 'movement. Let me give you a classic example of what I perceive as a problem. I was at a protest here in Medford, Oregon where about 400 people showed up on the 15th. Since, there is no organization here either, people are not being signed up, and there are not meetings to carry things forward. A lot of people would otherwise make commitments if there were a structure with chapters across the country.

[-] 1 points by RichardGates (1529) 13 years ago

i support moveon. are you trying to exclude me? everyone is welcome to participate, only the peoples voice speaks.

[-] 0 points by LetsGetReal (1420) from Grants, NM 13 years ago

Uh, MoveOn isn't a person, it's an organization.

[-] 2 points by RichardGates (1529) 13 years ago

this is your real motivation. and i noticed all of your posts are anti moveon, anti obama, or http://occupywallst.org/forum/proposal-ows-reply-to-purported-democratic-support/ if you want to participate thats cool. but do not expect to be taken seriously until you can cut the party crap.

[-] 0 points by LetsGetReal (1420) from Grants, NM 13 years ago

Not sure what your point is. No, don't like Obama, and therefore do not want his front organizations to divide what could be an important unifying movement. (I am a registered Dem btw who joined with Occupy until MoveOn moved in.) I object to the sneaky way MoveOn insinuates itself and is trying to push their reelection agenda through what is nominally a non-partisan movement.

[-] 2 points by RichardGates (1529) 13 years ago

ok, they are not on here telling people they cannot be part of this. you are. you are creating the divide. you know my point, you knew what i meant. you are a fkn troll. peice of SH!T

[-] 1 points by JohnB (138) 13 years ago

We are trying to preserve the unity of all the voices through consensus. Your assertions are irrational.

[-] 1 points by RichardGates (1529) 13 years ago

read for yourself. http://ows.superunion.org/results/?q=LetsGetReal see anything unifying? me either.

[-] 1 points by JohnB (138) 13 years ago

Eh, I'm looking, and all I see is discussion, debate, and communication. How is this a bad thing? The Forums here however are not facilitating a consensus process as they do at the General Assemblies.

[-] 0 points by LetsGetReal (1420) from Grants, NM 13 years ago

I'm not telling anyone they can't be part of this. I am objecting to an Obama election front organization's attempt to take over.

I've noticed this turnaround tactic of the MoveOn folks. As soon as someone objects to their involvement as divisive to a potential populist movement, they accuse the dissenter of trying to exlude people and causing division. It is MoveOn's involvement in OWS which keeps the country divided and the Dems know it. In fact they count on it.

I doubt you are a MoveOn op though. They are far too sophisticated to resort to calling people poopy heads.

[-] 1 points by CarryTheGripsUpToTheAttic (133) 13 years ago

Soros talks with the president.

What, then, are the chances that this move is just coincidence? Close to zero.

To the extent this is old school politics, it's worse than an enemy that, at least, will openly declare that he opposes you.

[-] 1 points by stopthat (64) 13 years ago

what is move on?

[-] 2 points by EndTheFedNow (692) 13 years ago

Democratic party. Same people Liann is spamming for. They are here to divide and kill our movement.

[-] 1 points by justhefacts (1275) 13 years ago

You were CREATED by MoveOn.org and the Tides Foundation, and Van Jones, and Steven Lerner. etc.

We tried to warn you. We tried to show you the proof. We're STILL trying to show you the proof. When will you listen?

[-] 1 points by EndTheFedNow (692) 13 years ago

Bullshit. Those are the groups trying to hijack our movement. This movement is non partisan and was commenced by AdBusters.

[-] 1 points by justhefacts (1275) 13 years ago

Do you know who owns/operates/influences AdBusters?

"The AdBusters Media Foundation describes itself as "a global network of artists, activists, writers, pranksters, students, educators and entrepreneurs who want to advance the new social activist movement of the information age." (wiki)

"At the heart of Adbusters is hatred of big business, in any form. As Naomi Klein writes in No Logo, “Simply put, anticorporatism is the brand of politics capturing the imagination of the next generation of troublemakers and sh*t-disturbers, and we need only look to the student radicals of the 1960s and the ID [identity politics] warriors of the eighties and nineties to see the transformative impact such a shift can have.” http://activistcash.com/organization_overview.cfm/o/36-adbusters

They ran this ad in the New York Times in 2003-BEFORE the economic crisis ever happened!

"July 4 Because my country has sold its soul to corporate power Because consumerism has become our national religion Because we've forgotten the true meaning of freedom And because patriotism now means agreeing with the president I pledge to do my duty ... and take my country back. "

"Adbusters generally prefers rage to discernment. “Let your anger out. When it wells up suddenly from deep in your gut, don’t suppress it -- channel it, trust it, use it. Don’t be so unthinkingly civil all the time,” Kalle Lasn advises. “Rage drives revolutions.”

And finally, here is an article in AdBusters that was printed on July 26th, 2011 with the term "OccupyWallStreet" in it! How many months before any "grass roots" people heard about it?

http://www.adbusters.org/blogs/blackspot-blog/vision-post-clicktivist-activism.html

P.S. One personal blog where the guy has done his homework and states in the replies:

"By the way, I have spread no disinformation. My post on "Who Is Behind The Occupy Wall Street Movement?" is SHARING INFORMATION from:

Two radical left wing publications --

The Nation Magazine Rolling Stone Magazine

Three radical left wing organizations --

Adbusters Media Foundation Campaign For America's Future MoveOn.org

and a David Horowitz associated website --

http://articles.businessinsider.com/2011-03-22/news/30073732_1_stock-market-seiu-secret-plan

Read this newspaper article from the Business Insider dated March 22, 2011

Mr. Lerner, then wrote an article himself saying that his ideas, far from being deep dark conspiracy, were just what other people have been thinking.... http://www.thenation.com/article/159547/back-you-glenn-beck

And those groups then went to work, organized, got permits and worked out deals, and then had a Canadian magazine "leak" a supposedly original, grassroots, idea. One the rest of us have been watching for since March.

And now that you naive little sheeples have got it off the ground and running, they'd like to take the reigns now thank you very much.
