Forum Post: Abortion — An Eye for an Eye?

Posted 2 years ago on April 18, 2022, 2:08 p.m. EST by ChicagoCitizen (1)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

State after jerkwater state is passing draconian restrictions on safe abortions. A little-spoken result of these laws is the deaths of thousands of women who have back-alley abortions. And, in addition to this needless carnage, the number of deaths of women giving birth will rise by an estimated 21% due to these laws.

Who is responsible for this disgrace? Of course, the legislators and judges who gleefully enact and uphold those laws. But they are just whores of a moronic populace who loves punishing women. And these idiots are inspired by priests, conservative ministers, nuns, and popes who insist on millennia-old beliefs, despite their bible saying that life begins at first breath.

If any of these clerics were to die in retribution for the women’s deaths, I definitely would not be unhappy.

After all, doesn’t the “holy book” of this clerical scum state “An eye for an eye”?

At the very least, people of integrity should treat priests, nuns, and conservative ministers as the murderous scum they are!

Catholic Ireland overturned abortion ban, and as a country, they moved forward. The elders, conservatives, religious, nuns, priests, whatever, saw they had no choice, that the younger people just weren't going to tolerate the ban anymore.

Here, in America, we move backward. I'd call out right wing nut jobs, not necessarily the religious people who sometimes are more tolerant than you would think.

Re. Abortion - idiotic allusions to direct violence against people you disagree with --- will NOT help anyone and ONLY in the gun ridden U$A, is the very first resort to any problem, seen as even more violence!!! Further consider the US SC decision, and its implications for women in the USA in 2022:

From the first link: "The Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, according to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito circulated inside the court and obtained by POLITICO.

"The draft opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right. “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes.

"“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” he writes in the document, labeled as the “Opinion of the Court.” “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

"Deliberations on controversial cases have in the past been fluid. Justices can and sometimes do change their votes as draft opinions circulate and major decisions can be subject to multiple drafts and vote-trading, sometimes until just days before a decision is unveiled. The court’s holding will not be final until it is published, likely in the next two months.

"No draft decision in the modern history of the court has been disclosed publicly while a case was still pending. The unprecedented revelation is bound to intensify the debate over what was already the most controversial case on the docket this term.

"The draft opinion offers an extraordinary window into the justices’ deliberations in one of the most consequential cases before the court in the last five decades. Some court-watchers predicted that the conservative majority would slice away at abortion rights without flatly overturning a 49-year-old precedent. The draft shows that the court is looking to reject Roe’s logic and legal protections.

"A person familiar with the court’s deliberations said that four of the other Republican-appointed justices – Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett – had voted with Alito in the conference held among the justices after hearing oral arguments in December, and that line-up remains unchanged as of this week.

"The three Democratic-appointed justices – Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan – are working on one or more dissents, according to the person. How Chief Justice John Roberts will ultimately vote, and whether he will join an already written opinion or draft his own, is unclear.

"'POLITICO' received the copy of the draft opinion (see ^ above) from a person familiar with the court’s proceedings in the Mississippi case along with other details supporting the authenticity of the document. The draft opinion runs 98 pages, including a 31-page appendix of historical state abortion laws."

"Dark Money: How the Supreme Court’s 6-3 Anti-Choice, Conservative Majority Was Shaped"!

From this^5m video: "What role did dark money play in the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade? We speak with reporter Andrew Perez about how conservative anti-abortion groups & right-wing extremists have funnelled millions of dollars, into promoting RW politicians & Supreme Court justices to ultimately curtail reproductive rights. A dark money network led by the Federalist Society’s Leonard Leo has now spent at least $10 million promoting each of Trump’s picks for the Supreme Court and another $10 million - blocking Merrick Garland’s nomination in 2016, says Perez, senior editor and investigative reporter at The Lever."

The Senate must codify the right to an abortion into Federal law but of course, it's in jeopardy. This is what happens when you allow fascism to take root in your country.

"Facsism" you say?!!! I see it in the U$A & hear of it in UK!! Sickening, tbh!

Please consider the SNP MP Mhairi Black's "Epic Speech on Tory Fascism":

ad iudicium?!

[-] 1 points by beautifulworld (23827) 2 years ago

"...Black’s speech became more impassioned when she came to the subject of culture wars – despite the right’s cries that their free speech is becoming endangered, she pointed out that it is in fact the government that is quashing free speech, introducing draconian measures in schools (the ban on any anti-capitalist reading matter allowed on the curriculum), crackdowns on protests and the proposed privatisation of Channel 4.

As Black gained momentum, she made chilling parallels with what is happening in the UK with how the seeds of fascism took hold in Europe before.

“This government literally want to get rid of the Human Rights Act,” Black said. “For who do they think rights have gone too far? You know how scary it is to sit at home and wonder if it’s you?”, She cited the Windrush scandal and the recent Home Office proposal to ship asylum seekers to Rwanda as examples.

https://www.stylist.co.uk/news/mhairi-black-speech-fascism/662382

I do think it's going to take young people, like Mhairi Black to change the direction the UK and USA are going in.

Watching a movie recently with two young people in which a small African American boy is torn from his mother and put in foster homes where he is mistreated (to say the least) by the "foster parents" who are being paid by the gov't of course. One of the young people says to me, "Why doesn't the gov't just give the money to the parents? To make their lives easier and better? Instead of the foster parents? What is the point? We concluded the point is to keep people down and in their place. Capitalism. Fascism. It all moves in the same direction when greed for the few is the rule of the day.

Also - from your link re. the UK:

"“We are turning into a country where words hold no value” Black stated. “Over the last 12 years we are sleepwalking towards the F word.”

As "In the past, fascism has never been immediately overt; instead, it is stealthy and subtle, she argued. She pointed to the concentration of power in the UK with no scrutiny: fascism“arrives under the guise of respectability” and is identifiable by “the othering of people”.

Finally note: "The things we do in the name of economic growth are warning signs we should not ignore, Black concluded, before taking her seat on the bench." Now as per OP & the thrust of your reply, please also consider:

"Dark Money Groups Are Pushing Disinformation to Downplay the Overturn of “Roe”!" by Alyssa Bowen:

"As underscored by Kansas voters’ resounding decision this week to reject right-wing efforts to strip abortion rights from their state constitution, the deadly overturn of Roe v. Wade is wildly unpopular among many voters across the country.

"But the same right-wing groups that helped to capture the Supreme Court — backed by ultra-wealthy donors they keep secret from the public — are working overtime to convince us that the overturn of Roe isn’t as dangerous as so many of us know it to be. Using dark money, they are mobilizing to reframe and cover over this anti-democratic, Christian-right coordinated effort to dominate our political system.

"The far right faction of the Supreme Court that handed down the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overturning Roe was put in place by a massive dark money web coordinated by Federalist Society fundraiser and right-wing Catholic lawyer Leonard Leo. His network has raised nearly $600 million in secret funding since 2014, not counting the past year. Leo himself hand-selected for Donald Trump three of the five justices that ruled to overturn Roe, and worked to get the others installed on the court. All the while, his affiliated dark money groups worked intensively to push the Trump nominees onto the bench, despite widespread and deep concerns about their fitness to be judges.

AND ENDS WITH: "As right-wing dark money groups try to whitewash the very real and truly dangerous consequences of overturning Roe, it is more important than ever to shine a light on their detrimental efforts to invalidate Americans’ concerns about abortion access and the likelihood that this is only the beginning of the right-wing efforts to turn back our rights."

which ends with this: "Jeffries isn’t facing other challengers for the leadership spot yet, but progressives are not likely to support him; after all, Jeffries was once rumored to be a target to be primaried by those close to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, though that effort never came to pass. The leadership election is slated to take place in roughly 2 weeks, on November 30 - meaning that if there will be a progressive or left-leaning challenger, they will likely have to emerge soon."

Consider: "Only One Blue State is fully preparing for the Next Phase of the Abortion Wars"- by Mark Stern:

"Republican legislators are already plotting to punish reproductive health providers across state lines. Connecticut has a plan to fight back."

From which ... "At least 26 states, will ban most or all abortions if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade this summer, as it appears poised to do. Many blue states have strengthened abortion rights in the run-up to Roe’s potential demise. But few are planning for red states’ campaign to punish abortion providers and patients in places where it remains legal.

"Connecticut however, will not be caught off guard. On Tuesday, the state’s House of Representatives passed a bill spearheaded by Rep.Matt Blumenthal that would transform Connecticut into a sanctuary for legal abortion. The measure, H.B. 5414 - bars state courts from enforcing another state’s penalties against someone who performed or facilitated an abortion that’s legal in Connecticut.

"It allows people sued under vigilante abortion bans, like Texas’ S.B. 8 - to countersue in Connecticut court, collecting both damages and attorneys’ fees if they prevail & it broadly prohibits individual state authorities from complying with another state’s request to investigate, penalize or extradite individuals for providing or facilitating reproductive health services.

"In short, H.B.5414 fights fire with fire. It is the gold standard for pro-choice legislation in the post-Roe era. If it becomes law (& it probably will) H.B.5414 will be the blueprint for every other state legislature that wants to fortify its own abortion laws against the coming red-state attacks."

'The Guardian' looks back at what Alito and four other justices have said on the landmark 1973 case in the past. Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch were adamant when pressed at their own confirmation hearings that they viewed Roe v Wade as ‘precedent’, with Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett citing the Planned Parenthood v Casey decision in 1992, which reaffirmed the landmark ruling." - from:

The dying GOP has nothing better to do than to stir up this matter again for election gain. Populism offers simple solutions to complex problems, like cutting out half of my underwear's inner flap to save a bit more fabric to pad profits and MBA bonuses so my "flower" slips out often: cuckoo, cuckoo, now is the month of maying. Men think with the go-nuts between the legs which communicate with the "master" pituitary gland via sex hormones. Cheatose(R), the whoremone[y], is GOP's paragon of virtuals. McCarthyism might come back for yet another round of lobotomy for the U.S. "The cure-all is cut, cut, cut and blow, blow, blow !" Shortly before WWII, Fascists' practices squirted Europe's brains to leave largely for the U.S.

Meteorologists have long enjoyed better tools for wildfire prediction than politicians do. They use dew point depression, radiosondes, etc.

GOP has no substance and tries to degrade the U.S. via incendiary distractions of the electorate and by short-circuiting democratic institutions. "Voters don't choose their representatives; representatives choose their voters." It's salamandering. GOP is a zombie.

It's why my Mom blurted "the truth" that I was incisive but said in the same sentence that I served justice. Parents are all Socialists but I'm not my Big Brother's father. Goddess of Justice carries a sword.

In the U.S., justice is generally exercised based upon evidence, preferably written down in black and white (in a memorandum) and duly executed while no party to the agreement was under duress. No matter how undesirably or reluctantly, the U.S. must carry out any sword strike as it sees fit to uphold the global order to secure peace and prosperity for all. The 1918 influenza pandemic caused the U.S. to miss the opportunity to secure a fair and just peace ( the Chinese Communist Party came out in the aftermath to start WWV over Taiwan in the future; Japan was insulted and went on the warpath for round 2 invasion of China and attack of the U.S., British, Australia, and Dutch; Germany went for that, too; WWII was infamously glorious ! ) -- though not peace at any cost as our warrior tradition is ancient and an integral part of humanity and life itself (Lebensraum). The Treaty of Versailles shows what not to do again.

I welcomed the rise of China as a potential worthy partner in safeguarding the world's peace and prosperity but the Cage-of-Crabs Party turned power over into the hands of an unworthy Mew2 mutant so we must destroy Red China's economic power base in the civilized world.
