If I were to run for president, my first order of business would be to abolish all forms of Congress (Federal and State). The president would create laws, and the American people would vote on them directly. If citizens have an idea for a federal law, they would attain a certain amount of signatures on a petition, it would be sent to the president, the president would put it on a ballot, and the American people would vote on it, along with all other agendas. Voting polls would be held 4 times a year If citizens in a state wanted a specific law passed, it would be the same process, however, the petition would go to the state's respective governor. We the people need a president and a court system. We do not need to be paying our dysfunctional Congress salaries, pensions, and benefits for life to bicker and look out for corporate interests. There would be no more lobbying. Every American gets a vote, so the majority's interests are always protected. America would then be a True Democracy!
It's time for us to move the movement to ATLANTIC CITY, NJ
The latest casino fat cat, Revel, is making employees REAPPLY for their jobs every 4 years. This way they can eliminate the unions and fire people that are getting too old.
The A.C. boardwalk is perfect for our revolution and the police are very shorthanded and not trained very well. We can camp under the boardwalk with the many homeless people the casinos want to see removed and taken to jail!!!!
We need to occupy the ATLANTIC CITY BOARDWALK and the casino fat cats like Sheldon Adelson the casino billionaire and his wife who support Newt the toad!
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your view of the constitution) a president can't simply wave has hand and abolish congress, he doesn't rule by decree. You need something better that a plan based on dreams to alter things.
Actually, the legal framework to suspend the Constitution, suspend Congress, & rule by Presidential decree ("Executive Order") is already in place, & waiting for America's Julius Caesar to come along & end the Republic: "Secret Bush Administration Plan to Suspend US Constitution: 'Continuity of Government' (COG) Provisions activated in 2001" http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=10473

Of course it exists, in law, not the constitution. There are bizarre government plans for all sorts of things. It's a quite a reach to think very many of them could actually work without the high level of civil unrest they usually talk about in formulating these plans, and they never work to promote freedom.
You don't walk into office and just do it. You'd need to create an evil to save us from first. It's a plan tailor made for the oppressor, not a liberator. Do you honestly think a benign use of such power would ever be possible?
An evil like Al-Qaeda? Or Saddam Hussein? Or the Ayatollahs in Iran? Or an Islamist Egypt (soon)? Or the "Muslim Problem" in the USA ("they're flooding in, breeding like flies, all terrorists, & will force Shariah Law on the US if they're not stopped - & soon!")?
Between the lies of US politicians & the lies of US mainstream media, whenever the 1% decide it's the right time, their politicians & media will convince enough of the sheeple that tyranny's the only answer!
You may be right, but lets stick to my original point. The power you speak of could be used as you say. My contention from the start is that it is a dream to think an abuse of power could be used to bring about a democratic utopia. It can easily be abused to create a dictatorship.
I wasn't suggesting those powers could, or ever would, be used to bring about a democratic utopia - I believe they would/will be used for quite the opposite, in fact.
I was merely pointing out that your opening sentence was wrong, & a US President could, in fact, simply "wave his/her hand", abolish Congress & rule by Executive Order.
The groundwork is certainly there, but I believe it would take a lot more to make it actually happen.
Like, say, a nuclear explosion that wipes an American city off the map? Or just a nuclear "dirty bomb" that turns a downtown into a no-go area? Or a biological attack that causes dozens, hundreds, or even thousands, of deaths? Or a chemical attack in a downtown area that causes dozens, hundreds, or even thousands, of deaths? Or an economic collapse of some sort?
Of course, some people believe an attack might eventually (or soon, even) be "arranged", to justify suspending the Constitution & imposing a fascist dictatorship.
We can imagine any set of events. Just my opinion but if it didn't happen under Bush with 9/11, it's less likely under Obama or even Romney.
sounds good to me.... at some point... we need to put faith in the people... God did..
we had a great country, just read the constitution, but when government isnt limited anymore, as the constitution's language was clear and evident to keep the government small, explicitly limited the federal government by anything that isnt directly stated in the constitution.
Abolish the president! He likes to bow down to foreign leaders like he's their damn servant.
