There are a lot of people trying very hard right now to drive a wedge between this movement and the Democratic Party. If they succeed it will mean the distruction of both this movement and the Democratic Party; that is exactly what happened in the 1960s and they would love to do it again! United we stand, divided we fall! Don't succomb to divisiveness!
I believe the green party could be viable
Huh? What are you, a DNC guy? There should be a wedge between OWS and the Democrat party. They are every bit as much in bed with Wall Street as the GOP.
Who we support should be based on who is willing to abandon the corporate campaign finance machine, not whether they are Dems or Repubs.
Yeah, sure, support the Repubs. Your game is clear enough.
No, you clearly neither understood what I said, nor, it seems, the larger concerns shared by most 99%ers, which is the corruption of the political process by wealthy corporate lobbyists. Obama, for example, received more money from Wall Street than any prior presidential campaign. This is in large measure why he has shown failed to go after Wall Street crooks and bailed them out; he is indebted to him.
For the record, I loathe the GOP. They are not only owned by Wall Street, they are proud to admit it!
If you see OWS as a subsidiary of the Democratic party, with all respect, you're a fool.
Ah, at least you are not a troll, so I will reply. Firstly everything you say about the Dems and their Wall St. connection is true. But the nature of the political process has become so corrupt since WWll that they have had no choice but to follow suit. Those dems that have stoof firm in congress have often been defeated by massed campaign wealth on the part of corporations on behalf of insiders from both parties! I am not saying become coopted by the Democrats, I am saying don't exclude them. To do so would be the best way to sabbotage this movement that I could think of! Over and Out!
NO WAR
Gov. Andrew (Tea Party Republican favorite) Cuomo’s top secretary urged Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings on Friday to instruct city police to remove Occupy Albany protesters from a downtown park near the state Capitol if they tried to remain there after an 11 p.m curfew.
A person familiar with the matter said Cuomo’s secretary, Larry Schwartz, called Jennings late Friday morning and said that State Police, who control half of the park that is partly owned by the state of New York and city of Albany, would remove any protesters who did not comply with a curfew. The position of the governor’s office was in contrast to an earlier plan by Albany police to leave the protesters alone if they were peaceful, even if they stayed overnight.
Occupy Albany demonstrators began arriving at Lafayette/Academy park around noon. Half of the space is state land, the rest city property.

If this is a legitimate reply, please see my post under "Read 'A wedge Issue.'" If not, we both know what you can do.
Yeah and Chuck Schumer voted for more free trade agreements. This is not a liberal democrat, it is corporate democrats. We need to replace the corporate dems with real dems. Thats all I am saying.
Thank You madeinusa! We are in complete agreement! We must drive that party so far left of what it is now that their head will spin! Thank you for taking the time to here me out on this very important issue.
If the anti-war movement destroyed the Dems, then why are they still here?
The Dems must not have been hurt too badly because they controlled the Presidency and the Congress from '61 - 69.
Not ALL Democrats! Such balck and white thinking is juvenile, and takes into account no real knowledge of political tactics!
You referred to the destruction of the Democratic party.
The telecommunications act of 1996 was passed by a democrat. Democrats are just as guilty for the wealth disparity as the republicans
The DEMS are the ones who refused to regulate the banks. (Even during the Bush years the Dems ruled congress) . The Dems made money hand over fist on Wall Street. The DEMS only want to associate themselves with you because they think it makes them look compassionate and concerned about "the poor". Ask them how much they are worth next time you see them.
You really want to hang with Dems?
Big banks and investment firms were among Obama’s top donors in 2008, including Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase & Co, Citigroup, UBS AG and Morgan Stanley.
Tim Geithner, current Treasury Secretary and former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, orchestrated the AIG bailout. Nancy Pelosi’s brother-in-law got a $737 million loan guarantee from the same Department of Energy that gave $535 million to Solyndra. Rep. Maxine Waters helped arrange a bailout for a bank that counts Waters’ husband among its board members. Rep. Barney Frank’s boyfriend was an executive at Fannie Mae as the government lender made it easier for unqualified homebuyers to get loans.
Those are facts. Not troll points. Facts.
I'm sorry about the tone of my last post, I get weary of all the trolls, please accept my appology. To answer your question: no, I don't want to hang with the Democrats! I abhor where that party, or at least much of that party (and here there is a serious distinction) has gone! Yes, they are completely corrupted - but we must remember that at least for now (unfortunately) this is still a two party system. If elections take place next year, and if there is not fundamental transformation of the political process by then, the reace will be between a Repub and a Democrat. What if in the mean time this movement totally alienated the Democratic Party? Hello Republs! And if you think this movement is being treated harshly now, just let them get inb and see how it goes. I am saying we must deal with realities - not just visions of what we want things to be. By the way - all am in this all the way - no matter the outcome!
I appreciate your apology and accept it.
This movement must get past parties. It has to. As long as it differentiates between groups-"us vs them" "left vs right", "Dems vs Republicans" "Tea Party vs OWS"-the truly corrupt among us all...win. The labels keep us from looking at each other-as people, as neighbors, as Americans.
I wouldn't worry about alienating the Democratic Party. They'll use you for as long as it works in their favor. Seriously. Worry about alienating all the people out there who might be more sympathetic to your cause if they didn't feel like you hated them so much. :)
There is much truth in this, and good sense. My main concern is simply this: that if it comes down to that time and all we have (God help us!) is another choice between a Dem and a Repub, whatever we do let's now allow the election of a Repub!
You want another 4 years of Obama?
No - not even the slightest bit! I'm dying to see this movement succeed, and succeed before the next election! But in the mean time let's not alienate the only existing left-wing base in America! Surely we must take into account the fact that at this time the majority of progressives in this country are Democrats. That is subject to change, perhaps; but at the moment it is a fact. To allienate them intentionally with inflamatory retoric and hostile intentions is not only morally wrong (what does the average Democratic voter have to do with the corrupt relations between govenment and corporations after all, except trying to find a way to stop it) is the height of self-destructive, counterproductive activity. It seems there needs to be a clear distiction between goals and means here - not to mention moral insight, and an ability to not lump people together in boxes where they don't necessarily fit. This seems to me to be merely the precurser to a dogmatism. Include - don't exclude is what I say!
The problem is, that even if this movement succeeds, the ONLY candidate the Democrats are going to support-is Obama. They aren't going to float someone else up against the incumbent President. So if you won't put a Republican in the White House, your only other option will be Obama.
