Forum Post: A way OWS can truly flip the script

While I firmly support what the occupy movement is doing, I believe you're rapidly approaching a point where you'll need to articulate what you want. I personally don't believe that you need to demand anything. That's the language of those that fail to understand what I think the movement is all about. So the question becomes, what can OWS focus on that will have a lasting impact and actually flip the script for good?

I'd like you to consider making a concerted effort to change the voting system in the country. There is no reason why we must all vote on a Tuesday. There is no reason why we as Americans continue to allow our rights as voters to be usurped, negated, marginalized, minimalized or disenfranchised or in some instances TAKEN. if OWS is able to change voting policy, the conventional wisdom is that it benefits democrats. I disagree. The immediate impact will be to mute the influence of big money influence in politics. If the democratic party takes it for granted that new voters will be poor, and flock to their candidates, they will lose. If republicans fail to expand their policies to include what's good for all, they will lose.

Your movement can change the entire course of our voting history, and political future by demanding that all Americans are able to vote, and vote with ease. Anything less goes against our founding principles and is not democratic. I'll be very interested to hear what the original 'occupiers" think about this idea....

I've been a huge fan of vote by mail, Instant runoff voting (check out wikipedia on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting ) And- taking all money out- let us pay for the "marketing" of candidates- via a voters guide with equal space- and debates. This would have a huge impact on the 99% and eliminate the buying of our elections.

Only politicians can change voting policies. See the conundrum? The Fox is guarding the hen house.

I agree that we should change voting from Tuesday. I always contended it was discriminatory against the working class - those not working have all day to go down and vote anytime. I either have to vote really early in the morning, or rush to get to the polls before they close at night.

Voting should be all day Saturday and Sunday! Many countries do this. Good idea.
