Forum Post: A plan & solution for Occupy. (The Venus Project)

The Venus Project realizes the significance of the Occupy Wall Street and Occupy Together movements and offers a positive solution for their grievances.

We at The Venus Project fear that any acquiescence to the protestor’s demands will do very little if the processes that cause the problems are left in place. In this case whatever laws or regulations are made will be eventually bypassed or overturned and conditions will revert back. This has almost always been the situation historically.

We are concerned that meeting the demands of the protestors while keeping the current economic system in place will not have the desired outcome. It will merely serve to temporarily pacify those who are abused and rightly angry. This will not solve the problems but will prolong them. When force does not work and superficial fixes (laws) are put into place without addressing the underlying problems, then no effective remedy will occur. It is the monetary economic system itself that is the root cause of these problems. Greed, corruption, and war are inevitable byproducts of the monetary system.

We maintain an obsolete economic system that has been handed down to us from centuries ago. It has never been just or equitable, nor can it be. The main aim of the monetary system is wealth, property, and power. This results in everyone being out for themselves. Our current circumstances are merely the evolution of a monetary-based system. It generates scarcity, poverty, aberrant behavior and the accumulation of wealth at the expense of others and the environment. The main aim is not the well being of the environment or people. Is it any wonder that most of the money is usurped by 1% of the population?

The wealthy buy and control the politicians, courts, judges, media, police, entertainment, and even the universities. They set the agenda and the laws for their own advantage. It is the taxpayers who pay the salaries of the police while they work for the wealthy (who pay very little taxes) to violently put down peaceful protestors who threaten the status quo.

Those in positions of advantage will not yield their control willingly.

Calls for stopping wars seems to be a fruitless plea when there is so much money to be made from them. Peace is the brief interval between wars. We have many real problems as a human species, but wars should not be one of them. Wars are the supreme failure of inadequate social structures. Conflicts must be expected when people have unequal access to goods and services.

Some say we should elect more “ethical” people to government. It is not ethical people we need but the intelligent management of Earth’s resources for the benefit of all. Anything less will revert back to the same problems we face today.

If we wish to put an end to wars, greed, and corruption, we must come to understand that the real culprit is the monetary system itself and the values it generates in order to perpetuate itself. It values competition rather than cooperation. People are pacified with the notion of “freedom”. As Jacque Fresco says, “one is only as free as their purchasing power”. Concepts of “individuality” keep people divided. It puts the blame on individuals rather than the system that has failed them, whether it is going abroad for cheap labor or automating to maintain a competitive edge. However, you are brought up with the propaganda that you are to blame, not the environment. This is not the case.

There is an alternative.

The Venus Project calls for a total redesign of society where human rights are not merely paper proclamations but a way of life. A society can be designed where war and want are distant memories. All people need clean air, water, food, a relevant education, and the necessities of life. This is now possible if we update our social systems as we have updated our technologies. We are not separate from nature and must live within the carrying capacity of our planet’s resources. This can be accomplished by applying the methods of science to the way we live with the main aim being the wellbeing of all the world’s people and the protection of the environment.

Jacque Fresco, the originator of the Venus Project, arrived at this new holistic socioeconomic system through more than 7 decades of scientific inquiry, research and development, which he calls a resource-based economy. We invite you to learn more about it at www.thevenusproject.com

Once we join together and proclaim all earth’s resources as the common heritage of all people, we will begin to know what it means to be civilized. Until that time we will be continuously fighting for a piece of the pie.

"The Venus Project calls for a total redesign of society where human rights are not merely paper proclamations but a way of life. A society can be designed where war and want are distant memories. "

That's a lot of words. What's the exact plan again?

Wait, what's the quote from Albert Einstein again? Ah, yes. "You do not really understand something unless you can explain it to your grandmother."

You can watch the video where he explains everything about the theory. It's a pretty smart idea. I do agree though that it's quite an extensive concept to grasp.

http://vimeo.com/28481104 It's difficult to explain in an essay. Jacque does a far better job explaining it than I will. Check out the video is pretty interesting.

He does ask for a complete redesign of society. His plan first is to make a movie to create awareness and once the movie is out gather funds to build the first prototype of a city.

I agree with him that as long as there's money there will be problems.... I agree with you in the fact that it's a very deep complex concept, and its gonna be hard for people to grasp it. Regardless I believe people are used to what we were born with. For example a cave man was used to living in a cave, a Nazi to being prejudice to jews, etc... etc... and at that time it seemed like the right thing because that's all we knew. Jacque's plan asks for an evolution of human society... We have technology to solve so many of our issues. We could solve hunger, and cease wars, and have global health care, but instead we use that money for corporations and greed.... I think that as humans we are flawed, but I believe that his concept of society is the first that I have seen that gives a hope of a better future. It is drastic, and it's scary which is why the prototype is a good start. I hope that this idea gets explored and not just killed!

Let me know what you think of the video.... That one is very long and explains everything. Here's a shorter one that explains how he thinks. the man is a genius. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=My8XFjkfi8A

Thanks for your reply badconduct

That won't work.

The planet doesn't always agree with man kinds plans. If that society gets hit with a massive ice age, it's going to quickly transform back to "survival of the fittest." The whole theory depends on the Universe maintaining a status quo, while mankind has infinite time and energy to conquer it. The Earth is just flying through the Universe and we are going along for the ride.

As well, you will never solve racism, religion, culture, history, genetics. How would you cure jealously, make everyone look and act the same?

The reality is, this is just another eugenics program. Maintain a system that benefits the few, and eliminate the masses who disagree or take advantage of the system.

The less complex the system, the more people will begin to take advantage of it. The more people take advantage of it, the more complex it will need to become. Ultimately, you'll end up exactly where we are.

You have to remember, the structure we live in today is not a product of one person's sole idea, it's an amalgamation of human culture through tens of thousands of years. People aren't willing to give up their culture, tradition or religion for a "better world".

This is just another form of the NWO. The USSR tried it, North Korea tried it, Hitler tried it. It's the same result with a different promise.

It's an untested theory. A good start would be to test it at city level or with a small island nation. You can't apply this sort of all changing theory to a nation like America before it has been thoroughly tested. Every theory has flaws that need to be worked out. However, I think it would be a good idea to test it. I holds some promise.

That's exactly what they are proposing to do

Thanks Genanmer

Yeah They have a bunch of videos and links with info, I could re-say it all but I think they explain it way better than I will ever.

I know its a big thing I'm proposing and speaking about, but isn't Occupy this big change for the better. Let's go deeper and fix the problem from the root, even if it is a prototype city, from there if it works we can change the rest of the world.

I know, that's why I'm saying there is not much use of talking about it now. That part has been done, what needs to be done now is wait for them to test it.

Thrasymaque

Yeah it is untested, and we do need to test it out first before we can apply it to a whole country, very true... Jacque is looking to gather funds to make a major motion picture to show the general public what the idea of this new society is, and how it differs from the world we live in.

I think we got used to thinking this is the only way we can live, and ignored other possibilities... Regardless yes you are right every theory has flaws and The venus project needs to be tested out.... If Jacque gathers enough funds to make the movie then he can begin to build the 1st prototype city. I think that would be the test that we would need to see if this sort of system would work.

I'm in Miami, and the topic was presented wednesday at Occupy Miami, saddly I couldn't attend and was out of town so I don't know what was the outcome but if any of you are in Occupy NY it would be fantastic if you could check out all of the projects info and present it as an option.

I think that if we each donate lets say a dollar each, we could get the movie going and from there test out this theory.

I replied to "badconduct" with some good links for getting info on the topic. Check them out and let me know what you think.

I'm glad to be able to at least talk about this idea of a better world. I know its really different, but I also know that its just crazy enough, and smart enough to work. There's a lot of greedy power seeking people in the world, but there's also a lot of beautiful people out there trying to make a change. Why should we let them win?

I will always hope for the better, and fight for this idea of a better world.

HI, greetings form Spain I am familiar to the Venus Project, I love RBE BUT it is my opinion that regretfully this project is not tailored for today's regular joe, and you do not seem to be addressing this drawback anywhere in the project. We should be focusing in becoming that human being who deserves to live in such a new and wonderful system, otherwise it will not fail because it will never materialize. Reagrds,T

I read this on a Scientology pamphlet

Wow really? a Scientology pamphlet?.... How odd. Would be interesting to see what they say. Do you have any links that would be good to look at? I didn't know Scientology was talking about this.
