The below is an e-mail I got from my best friend who is a native New Yorker. She is an awesome, courageous and very smart lady and has pointed out some serious actions that need to happen in order for this movement to succeed:
"I’m reading about this Occupation Wall Street daily and I hate that they still have no singular message. Its good that they trying to keep the square clean and that they trying to stay non-violent but please honey, what the hell is their message! I'm sorry but the Banks are Evil and the Rich People Suck ain't a friggin message! And they costing NYC about $150,000 a week in overtime for the added police force so they using up resources for what?! Healthcare is outrageous, there's something to scream about; there are no jobs that pay a decent wage w/benefits; and the housing nightmare is nowhere near an end--these are all solid things that their sheer numbers in attendance can maybe act to change (i.e., force them banks to stop foreclosing, raise the limit of qualification for Medicaid). Those two small things will make a huge difference to the working poor right now, but no one is screaming about this stuff. They all have different things they yelling about and they think that by just occupying the square and keeping their individualism that its gonna accomplish something!
I'm so pissed about it cuz they've got the nation's attention and they ain't doing much with it so get off your asses, stop fighting about the "no drugs/no alcohol" rules in the square and actually put together a coherent demand letter to the White House outlining exactly what can be done to ease people's suffering (again forcing the banks to stop the foreclosures and give these people time to find jobs would be a good start). I don't know, if I didn't have so many responsibilities as the main bread winner in my family, I would think about going down there to see what is really up and what the plan of action is cuz the media is keeping a lot of it out of the news and there is a website called occupywallst.org that actually has a forum that people post to giving you a hour by hour account of what is happening there. Unfortunately there are a lot of hippies staying there (of course they the ones against the no drugs/no alcohol issue) and they just want to have "peace" signs up and drum all day so they making it harder for the other 60% that are actually unemployed middle class. Having said that, I know that without them hippies, none of this would have happened cuz they got their first, but truly they don't want to work honey, they want handouts so its gonna be the unemployed middle class like you and me that can maybe bring about change but they sure taking their sweet time bringing the majority views front and center cuz they want everyone to be allowed to have a forum. Well honey, you and I both know that this way don't work. Majority rules and that's how it goes so something can finally get done. I'm gonna keep praying girl cuz that's all we can do but yes do start storing cash cuz I'm afraid that real soon its gonna be king and no one will take credit no more cuz they won't be getting paid for it from the credit card companies so save, save, save girl cuz that's what I doing."
Thank you & God bless OWS!!
