Opinion: A lot of people are waking up today to the fact that we are in a civil rights movement. So what looks like a temporary victory to some, is just a pause, a painful pause, as we shoulder the now far heavier burden we have to bare. A sad pause, for a country we had hoped for more from. But only a pause. A pause before the storm.

I think the NYPD's brutal treatment of the protestors and draconian abuse of the journalists doing their job as they attempted to create a media blackout is in fact, a victory for the movement. You have demonstrated to the whole world the brutal repression which the Police and Mayor Bloomberg felt was necessary to suppress freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.

Using violence to end an argument is a sure sign that they don't have a response. As Socrates said to the Athenians when he was sentenced to death "The fact that you have to resort to force to silence me means that I have won."

The near-orgasmic joy of OWS members to call the treatment from police as "brutal" is pathetic. Barely a bloody nose in the mix (except from booger harvesting) yet things are "brutal".

In Oakland, protestors threw rocks and bottles at cops (and violent rhetoric) until the police had to squelsh the violence with nonlethal rubber bullets and tear gas - yet it was the police who were "brutal".

Multiple sexual assaults and rapes in the camps - yet it is the police who are "brutal".

A cop gets cut while in a non-moving barracade line - yet the police are "brutal".

Zed, you don't know brutal and you don't want to.

Is this the bar liberty has to clear now? We were not beaten while our speech was silenced, so we must be free?

A media blackout? It's all over the press. Brutal? You don't know what brutal is. Get back out to the park. Nothing is stopping you.
