One suggestion is to pass a constitutional amendment or law for mandatory voting in presidential elections. Non compliance --$100 fine--Australia and Austria already have such a law. This would open the electorate and we would finally know what American think not just those susceptible to TV propaganda. Please go to http://youtu.be/5O0sLff-XTE a video on the wealth gap! or if really adventurous go to jimnolan44.com senate race... I am not a egomaniac, I do believe there are issues you can use. thanks nolan44

The point of mandatory voting is that ALL legible American must vote and

  1. not just the old, wealthy. or ideologues pick the Prez 2. politicians will have to account for everyone thus what is actually good for all of us 3. we will finally find out what we think as a country. 4. for all those who say the apathetic should not vote--just maybe since they will be required to vote ( they may take notice and become aware ) 5. we will not be such hypocrites when we tout democracy all over the world

"None of the above" would have to be an option, as would filing a vote of protest.

I was going to suggest a tax credit for those who do vote, but I suppose they net the same :-\

In 2008, 65 million voted for Obama, 55 million for McCain for a 57% voter turnout, so that leaves 90 million who didn't vote. My guess is 75% of them, or 67 million didn't vote because they believe it makes little difference who we vote into a broken system. My guess is the remaining 25%, or 23 million got a flat tire that morning, woke up sick, etc...so "intended" to vote, but didn't.

So if the 90 million who didn't vote, did vote, what do you think would be different??? The only two answers are either Obama would have still won, or McCain would have won.

I'm seeking the 67 million apathetic non-voters: http://www.JeffBlock2012

If/when we change the system to have open and free campaigns AND a 2 round counting system ("...if my candidate doesn't win on the 1st round, then my votes goes to [second choice]) then more would vote. The 2 round both prevents the Nader 2000 effect, where votes for Nader helped Bush win, and also would have more people voting for "long shot" candidates because they know their vote will still count if their "long shot" candidate doesn't win on the 1st round.
