Though the 99% are unified by anger at the exploitation that they have experienced in the current system, their diverse backgrounds and often divergent political views make the creation of a unified policy difficult. If you look at the media, one of the major reasons we are not being taken seriously is that we do not have a cogent set of demands that the membership can comfortably stand behind.
The movement has evolved through collective action, and I feel that it is important that we develop a democratic means of creating a platform. In my opinion, it would be a travesty if we elected, or appointed party leaders to develop our platform for us.
What do you think about implementing a Digg style board for the discussion of demands? It would allow assembly members to post a proposed demand, create a venue for constructive discussion in line with each demand, and provide a means for the national assembly to vote for their preferred solutions.
With a democratically ordered policy list, I would propose that we take the top handful of ideas, and make them the cornerstone of the policy changes that we seek.
