Forum Post: A Coherent Objective

I completely support the occupants of wall street. Unfortunately, I must insist that we, the 99%, lack a common goal. Although we are getting face time with the nation and making our qualms known, we lack direction and coherence. I believe one of the roots of several problems our nation has is the existence of central banking. That is to say that there is overwhelming popularity in major national banks as compared to that of local credit unions and such. If we passed laws to impede the expansion of major banks and promoted the growth of smaller ones, this country would be taking the first and most prominent steps to a greater future.

Please discuss with intelligent, developed, and moreover, respectful attitudes.

Dear AnOccupant,

Thank you for putting your body where my wishes are.

At the risk of repeating what you have said, I offer the following to build upon, reinforce and support your views and to plant some possible seeds for consideration in answer to your necessary questions:

Thank you for your efforts, you heart and your commitment.

These are some of my views, hopes and concerns:

It is fundamentally impossible for a flesh and blood person to sustain opposition against giant, non-corporeal, immortal entities with legal rights (i.e. companies). Until these intangible behemoths once again wear a human face, we the people will remain subject.

Is there a solution? What if companies became groups of people who bare the legal responsibility of the actions of their company? What kind of change will that seed? Will it begin to level the playing-field?

Though my heart opens to this movement, for which I have worked all my life, I wonder, are we prepared to see this battle through? What does that mean? Well as you well know, it won't be long before good ol' 'National Security' is brought into play for the good of 'the people' (hear meaning the 1%?). Yes my dears, 'they' have the guns...all of them. But it is us that fire them at their command...isn't it?

Do you really think there is a big difference between Libya (and the Arab Spring), and this? And what did their 1% do when pushed hard enough?

I sincerely hope that we rise up quickly and wholly enough to minimize casualties...but would it not distinguish us among other such noble movements throughout history if we offered a constructive solution? (Yep! that's the bit that repeats your great post)

Where are we going...what will it be like? What is the better alternative awaiting 'us' and 'them'?

Let us take note and heart of the centuries of creative efforts of our collective peoples, utilize them and build upon them by offering something better to go to, before we once again, destroy what good and brilliance we have achieved. Let's at least try to use this brilliance differently. We all know that the answers are already at hand...we don't have to invent anything...we just need to do what we say...really.

These 1% are people too...let us not become them, but offer them a new leaf...from a better tree...a tree that does not suck life from it's soil, but adds life to it.

I am with you heart and soul...so long as heart and soul remain our guiding lights...lest we continue to repeat history as we have ever done.

No, I'm not a religious advocate, or a Christian or a Buddhist or an anything...in fact I am nothing and no one. I have no vested interest, no affiliation...in fact I am alone. I have no money, no home of my own, no assets and rent a little flat in a remote part of the world. This is a result of my choices. I am no victim.

A solution must be wanted...really, truly. What will be the tone from which our song of life takes flight? What will we create? This is a conception...isn't it? Let mankind be greater that we sing...

I look forward to contributing to a world that does not erode my heart by living at the expense of others.

And it is not a big fat complex equation - While ever there is one person that lives without home, hearth and nourishment, then someone is living at another's expense.

I think there really is a common goal. Basically, what it boils down to is that we all recognize that our political and financial system is, well ... unfair. I know that may sound a touch childish but we all really know in our hearts that we need to strive for "fairness" and we all know in our hearts when things are "unfair".

Solving the "unfairness" is always a bit trickier, however. Personally, I think there's a few things we know for sure. The Republicans and Libertarians have convinced me that our debt can cause some very serious problems. We haven't seen the results of those problems yet, but, we know, just as a matter of common sense, that our debt is out of control.

We also know that things for the middle class and poor have gotten significantly worse over recent years while the rich have gotten massively richer. We know this. I know that many of my former Libertarian friends are trying to rationalize their beliefs and dismiss this common sense fact, but we know it.

We also know that the rich have been paying less and less taxes while we've been pretty much level. The middle class and poor are hurting! We've lost homes, we've lost jobs, we've lost 401k funds, we've lost our f...ing shirts! So, if we MUST solve the debt problem, who's in the best position to solve it? Well. Obviously, the rich. Or more specifically, the rich who aren't the "Job Creators". The billionaire hedge fund managers and mllionaires who pay only 15% taxes on their "capital gains" (gambling) earnings in the stock and commodities markets.

So if we MUST pay down the debt, it is the unproductive rich who MUST contribute more. It's obvious. ... IMHO anyway.

We need to do whatever it takes to re-elect Barack Obama in 2012. The fate of our nation depends on it.

LOL! With friends like Barry Obama we don't need enemies.

are you stalking me?

[-] 1 points by dankpoet (425) 13 years ago

Nope. But your everywhere misrepresenting yourself.

[-] 1 points by MikeyD (581) from Alameda, CA 13 years ago

How could you even make that claim if you weren't stalking me.

[-] 1 points by dankpoet (425) 13 years ago

I read a lot. And Trolls are duly noted. Lest I actually make any effect trying to converse with you.

[-] 1 points by MikeyD (581) from Alameda, CA 13 years ago

Whatever. If it makes you feel better to call me, and my opinions "trolling", have at it. I should take a page from your playbook and dismiss all opinions that conflict with mine, "trolling". Does it help you feel bigger inside?

[-] 1 points by dankpoet (425) 13 years ago

Disagreeing isn't what makes you a troll. Misrepresenting yourself does and I am bigger inside.

Regardless of who is correct here, I feel compelled to remind you both that we stand together in this movement and we must accept each other's quarks and differences if we are to succeed. Stand in solidarity.

[-] 1 points by dankpoet (425) 13 years ago

You're right. My apologies, I should have left it at Troll.

[-] 1 points by MikeyD (581) from Alameda, CA 13 years ago

What you should have done is saved your angst for the 1%. People like you just divide the movement.

If we want to succeed at ANYTHING, we need to embrace everyone. If we advocate a liberal agenda, the conservatives will attack it. We need to be inclusive.

Right now, we just need to advocate one thing, END CORRUPTION. It's a cry that resonates with 99% of Americans and can be used to build the movement to the point where we can push out other demands (that everyone agrees with, regardless of ideology).

Right now, most Americans don't understand anything about the Fed. They know that Bernake is an important figure in our economy, but that's it (if they even know that).

Demanding changing banking and such is not going to be embraced by 99% of Americans. Wait for it and maybe with education it will be something that can be taken up later.

For now, we have enough on our plate just growing and advocating ending corruption.
