Forum Post: A call to conservatives to occupy wallstreet

In an earlier thread somebody asked, what would you say to the people you're protesting if they were sitting at the other side of the table.

The "Other side" is corruption in general; government, media, individuals, and corporations. That is the one thing we all agree upon and are trying to unite to combat.

Sadly, all the talking heads have been pretty successful at using social and political differences to keep people from uniting.

I don't know if they do it out of spite, ignorance or for personal gain. But they've been pretty successful.

The movement is growing and that is a good sign, however the majority seems to be pretty liberal. I encourage conservatives to join the movement since we too have legitimate grievances with corruption.

Like it or not, this movement is going to be what shapes the future of the United States, so why not come and let your voice and ideas be part of it?

I would rather have an honest debate with real conservatives and libertarians than hear a Democrat or Republican blow smoke again. Those who can't stand the status quo probably have more in common to talk about than their labels suggest.

I think people naturally group together by social and political views

[-] 1 points by bannik311 (83) 13 years ago

You're absolutely correct, so go and meet people, figure out what social and political views you have in common and invite them to the 99%

It's finally happening! The conservative people are joining! The long partisan night is ending! No more will the people be played against each other.

Thank you for being here. You have it exactly right. The movement is mostly left-leaning currently, and the onus is on right-leaning folks to join up.

You folks can make it. You can take your country back.

Somehow I knew you were going to follow-up with some conspiracy theory. Not everybody in the world is out to get you, and the whole system is not flawed. Lets have a real discussion that does not involve scrapping everything and starting over.

Until the major corruption in the last few decades we've had the most fair and successful political system in the world. The downfall of every empire (capitalist, socialist, fascist and communist) was not the ideals the government was founded on. The downfall always has been, and always will be due to corruption at the top.

I guess one man's enlightenment is another man's conspiracy theory

Fair enough, suspicion is a good motivator for accumulating knowledge, however at some point you have to take things at face value and accept the far simpler explanations.

[-] 1 points by enlightened (177) 13 years ago

Anytime you are being divided by the media be suspicous

[-] 1 points by bannik311 (83) 13 years ago

No thanks, I prefer not to see fear around every corner.

[-] 1 points by enlightened (177) 13 years ago

I didn't mean that literally?

I was implying that dividing us keeps us fighting each other and e

Liberals vs Conservatives = Divide the 99% & Conquer the 99%. There is no Liberal vs Conservative in an economy with a debt-based currency. We are a generally indentured nation. We are told that we are free and we believe it. However, did anyone vote for a representative that stated that once they took office they would repeal Glass-Steagal? Was the repeal of Glass-Steagal some kind of sudden, urgent matter that wasn't known to your representatives when they campaigned for your vote? To anyone who thinks you have freedom because you are a voter, you do not, you are played like a fiddle and you have no hope of any knowledge that would be meaningful regarding what your representatives will do when you vote for them. However, you can be sure that there are many Corporations that were already working on the repeal of Glass-Steagal when you voted for your representatives who repealed it. That is why OWS is right and that is why our democracy needs to get the business interests out of our politics once and for all. We have been talking about it for at least a century, due to the foreclosure crisis and the Great Recession it is now time to enact a new slew of laws to create a separation of Corporation and State.

Herman Cain isn't a bad guy, he is very naive and doesn't seem to think before he speaks. However, he is willing to rethink his worldview when presented with information he was previously unaware of. He talks tough and tries to be overly masculine, but that's just the nature of the party now days.

If he would drop the 9 9 9 thing I would start taking him a bit more seriously.

Great point. Reach across the divide; shake hands, then link arms with Herman ("I'm the 1%) Cain! (I am being SERIOUS). Find the common ground.

Your right, CORRUPTION is the issue here. Not Capitalism or SOCIALISM. The present system is neither, its a KLEPTOCRACY held by a tiny minority of people.

thx bannik. like most, my family is a mix of both sides of the isle, i wouldn't shut them out, same applies here i think.

[-] 1 points by bannik311 (83) 13 years ago

The most important thing you can do is be educated and engaged. People will disagree with you and that is fine, when they disagree get them to put their ideas out there and find your common ground.

I like that you are showing passion and you don't claim to speak for everybody. Turn off the auto play on that video and keep spreading the good word
