Others in the camp strongly opposed that philosophy and wanted Occupy Oakland to more explicitly embrace nonviolence. They also said discouraging public opinions amounted to censorship or a "code of silence." "Occupy Oakland needs to denounce violence, and it needs to do it strongly tonight," said one speaker. He didn't get his wish, as 60 percent of the assembly voted to honor the "diversity of tactics" approach.

At first I was willing to consider it was only fringe elements doing all the fear and bullying tactics but Occupy Oakland General Assembly can't agree that non-violence is a good idea. I've been mainly following Oakland since it's close to home so I can't speak for any other branches but this kind of thing is what is bleeding your support from the left.
