and there are a lot, I mean A LOT of anti-conservative, anti-TEA party, and anti-republican sentiments who are part of and leading this movement. You are Starting at 58% and dropping. http://www.gallup.com/poll/148745/political-ideology-stable-conservatives-leading.aspx
On the same note as myheartspits, our demands could be less inclusive. I'm not saying everyones demands aren't important, I'm saying that the main goal of the movement should be taken care of first (ending the corrupt corporate influence on politics), this will pave the way for additional issues to be taken care of in the future.
What I'm saying is, let's end the main problem, then we can work on health care or student loans or any other problem that ANYONE has (read: republicans and democrats and independents alike, no demands should be disregarded due to political stances if they lead to a better life for the American people)
This is valid. Dennis Kucinoch talks about this sometimes. However even many conservatives are suspicious of the richest 1%. See beyond red and blue by pew institute.
I have to return to the Constitution on this one. The Fed's are not responsible for social engineering. They are responsible for the defense of our country. States should be handling social woes of those less fortunate or lazy. Get rid of the dept. of Education, Energy and others (IRS) as well as the Czars Barry O appointed.
Return to the constitution all you want--except when it's convenient:
...If you don't speak German as a native language, ach! It's the result of government intervention that took over the economy, converted our industry to a war-time footing, and helped save the world from fascism in World War II.
...if you drive a car on the highway, please stop doing that! It's the result of socialist government intervention!
...If you are using the Internet, please stop now! DARPA, a federally funded entity invented it and that's socialism that you're supporting--cease and desist!
...if your parents or grandparents get a social security check--go quickly, and take it away from them! That's socialism!! Those people are bloodsuckers!!
...If you've ever enjoyed a national park? Please don't go there again--that's socialism!
...if you've ever eaten peanut butter without fear that it's tainted with botulism or e coli, please only go to corporations that avoid evil federal food inspection regulations. Why? Because that's socialism!
Get it?
Peace.

The federal government is responsible for whatever we want it to be responsible for. This movement is about stopping the wealth transfer from the bottom 95% to the top 1% that has been occurring for the last thirty years through the federal government at the behest of the financial class.
Great post Rob! I'm a social liberal and a fiscal conservative. I think we need to encourage as many people to be a part of this as possible and to encourage them to present their side & educate/debate. If we don't work together, we're just spinning our wheels.
Spinning indicates no forward or backward movement, sliding backwards would be more appropriate.
This is why I think our "demands" should be far more inclusive, so as to invite conservatives in. Conservatives agree that we shouldn't be at war with the world. Conservatives agree that Wall Street should be held accountable for its crimes. Conservatives agree that we should get money out of politics. Conservatives agree that corporations aren't people and shouldn't be able to buy elections. There, we've got at least 80% of the country on our side.
Discuss the commonalities and invite everyone in. But don't stop at conservatives--everyone needs to be invited into the dialogue, including liberal democrats.
There are many more specifics that divide the TP and the #OWS. I'm trying to address them through clear-headed analysis and facts--and priorities. Purist, pro-market folks though, are starting in negative territory. Why? Because "an unregulated free market" is a euphemism for "pro-corporatist," and that's not what this movement is about. Is there a place for the market? Absolutely, but currently, many conservatives think that the market should control everything, and that's what led to "No money? No credit? No problem!" mortgages and risky derivatives trading and credit default swap institutional gambling that then led to meltdown and then led the bailout. Be inclusive? Yes. But people need to learn what happened here--and a lot of what conservatives voice is cyclical reasoning: Eliminate influence over corporations, Adam Smith, yay!, no government, when, in fact, that's exactly what led to all of this in the first place.
But that's what led to the meltdown in the first place.
