There is a bill pending called China currency manipulation. It would change the tariff we charge China's goods from 2.5% to what China charges our goods of 25%. This will bring millions of middle class American manufacturing jobs home. Lets do ourselves some good and get this bill passed. Yes, big business purchased our legislator to make these free trade agreements that have trashed our economy.
The US does not have the power anymore to dictate China, it is bankrupt and China owns its debt. A double dependency and an US double deficit. The US still has its military capabilities but as an empire it is a bit overstreched, just like the Soviet Union in 1988 at the brink of collapse.
What the markets bet at present, they want to get Germany and/or France in the position to slip into the power vacuum when the US are leaving in EMEA and focus their attention on their new masters in the Pacifics.
I would loathe for the US to get into a trade war with China. They literally are very near to being the most powerful economic force in the world. In some things, they already have us by the short hairs.
Bite not the hand that feeds you, or supplies your rare earth metals.
It won't bring many jobs back. Tons more jobs are lost to automation than overseas.
To sell something in China, part has to be built there. And when China and India are your biggest markets, the products will be built there.

Has anyone looked at our import tariff system? It is a mess. I would like to know why some things are taxed more than others, like different taxes for different kinds of shoes. '''Weird.
I have wondered what the economy here would look like if we got rid of ALL other taxes and only had import tariffs. On one hand the price of imported goods like electronics and cars would go way up. On the other hand there would be no incentive to move jobs overseas and people would have more money in their pockets to purchase that stuff.
Perot was right, all that's left after all the so called "free trade" agreements is that sucking sound.
